Nutrition in off track mares

Postby foothillsequine » Sat Mar 01, 2008 8:33 am

I have a mare just off the track. As her nutritional requirements are changing due to the fact that she is no longer racing, what would be the best feed for her? Any and all advice is appreciated..

Is she really "hot" or is she pretty laid back? She may transition fine to regular rations if she is calm, but if she was fed pretty high powered stuff you may want to wean her off it slowly.

I am weaning gradually as her temperament fluctuates. Of course, she is also cycling :?
