I agree with you Keith and I think if Ashford were just a tad more selective, GC would be making a lot more noise on the track and in the sales ring. For the right mare, I wouldn't hesitate at all.

It is so nice to read a thread like this, and finding out that the posters have not been vilified for their opinions, or snared in never ending, self serving arguments, leading nowhere.

Has been given every possible opportunity and with that has shown he can get high class performers.

Has only 62% runners to foals 35% winners to foals 57% winners to runners average lifetime starts per runner is only 8 average earnings per runner of about $72K are way below his stud fee of $125K.In KY Pleasant Tap,Rahy,Silver Deputy,Smoke Glacken,Slew City Slew,Gulch,El Prado,Quiet American,Sky Classic,Cozzene,Dixieland Band,Intidab are all much better deals. They all have higher winners to runners, average lifetime starts and average earnings except Slew City Slew(near $66K but with 76% winners to runners and 21 starts).

Does anybody have a look at his stats without his Down Under foal crops? He was a massive flop in Australia/New Zealand.

It'd also be interesting to see a breakdown of how he has done with european family mares (e.g. My Typhoon) versus american family mares (e.g. First Samurai). My gut instinct says he has done better from the european family mares, but that's just a gut feeling and I have no proof.

I have no real opinion, just that I had this as an old link in my bookmarks and found it earlier this evening.

He has gotten nice G1 producing mares. Thoroughbred Times stallion directory gives his SI(Sire Index) as 2.62 ComSI is 3.94. That means the mares bred to Giants Causeway produced better runners with other stallions and he is dragging his mares down. His current AEI is only 1.99 according to equineline.com

One of the worst Gr. 1 fields ever. The winner was most recently in a $45,000 optional claimer. Not exactly something extraordinary.

Yeah, the Suburban field left a lot to be desired. :|

Still, it is a GR1 win. How can that be a bad thing?
