Kentucky Derby Trail Prep Winners GSV scores

Postby George William Smith » Mon Mar 03, 2008 3:18 pm

Here are the updated GSV numbers of the winners so far in the Kentucky Derby Trail. Certainly shows that a low or high GSV score does not guarantee success along the KY Derby trail in the prep races. However, overall, there are certainly some winners here with very high scores also.

Kentucky Derby Prep Race Results and GSV score of Winner
February 9, 2008 Risen Star-G3, Pyro, GSV = 72.27
February 9, 2008 Turf Paradise Derby, Nikki'sgoldensteed, GSV = 63.93
February 10, 2008, San Vincente-G2, Georgie Boy, GSV = 59.07
February 16, 2008, Borderland Derby, Poni Colada, GSV = 71.74
February 16, 2008, Sam F Davis, Fierce Wind, GSV = 77.88
February 18, 2008, Southwest-G3, Denis Of Cork, GSV = 66.14
February 24, 2008, Fountain Of Youth-G2, Cool Coal Man, GSV = 75.15
March 1, 2008, John Battaglia Memorial, Absolutely Cindy, GSV = 74.93
March 1, 2008, Sham-G3, Colonel John, GSV = 68.13

If a horse with a score over 70 wins the Derby, then the chances are very good he will be a successful stallion and worth using, if you can afford it, for one or more of your mares if they fit your mare in other ways also.

What is Blackberry Road's GSV score. I'm looking forward to seeing Pyro run again and hope Blackberry gets a better trip this time.

Thanks George, and I'm excited about the addition of Robbie. I'm using BR on all my tickets.

Thank you, George.

I'm interested in the high score for Poni Colada. I didn't think Volponi was very highly thought of, so what is it about Poni Colada's pedigree that is contributing to his high numbers? If you don't mind me asking.

Hi: The male half of the pedigree is only contributing a GSV of 64.08, so it is pretty obvious that the strength is coming through the female half, which is 74.40.

Also the mating produces a foal ~4 points better than the average Volponi foal, so it seems it is a definite upgrading through the dam.
:D best, George

Ah, thank you George. Well, we'll see how young Poni does today in the Winstar. I do like his name, very clever.
