The Arkansas Derby, 1 Million $$ is on Bob Blackjacks schedule, we will then be able to compare our West 3yr. olds with those Eastern Derby bound horses.

That's interesting. He's such a talent over the SA synthetic surface. I would stay home and build off that last race and run in the SA Derby.

Perhaps they think if Sierra Sunset handled his foes in the Rebel that B BJack fit.

James Kasperoff BBJ trainer said with the injury to Sierra sunset, he is looking forward to running BBJ. Georgie Boy may also be headed for the Arkansas Derby.

Anyone else here see possible distance limitations with BBJ?

Bertrando used to start struggling right around 9F and only won once at 10 finished 2nd after fading a few times, Stormy Jack never won over a mile.. :?

Just curious, though I would love to see something from this general sire line take a Derby.

JK trainer of BBJ seems to think 1 mile will be the distance limitations for BBJ. If he catches a weak field in the ARk. Derby, BBJ coukld be on the board for a lucrative $$.

Thanks Louis. :) That is what I thought after his last race.
Either way he has more than paid off his 5k purchase price!

Hard to believe they will pass on the $250,000 added Snow Chief Stakes at Hollypark on 4-27-08. That's a Cal Bred restricted stake at a mile and an eighth. Would think that would be a paid workout for BBJ. That's a hundred and fifty grand to the winner.

BBJ is one tough dude, he likes to bite everyone that gets close to him. As his outcross breeding, gives him that piss & vinegar tireless energy. BBJ is always looking for more, thats why his connections want to run in the Ark. Derby

When I first started reading this thread, Louis, I had my doubts about BBJ but after chuckling at your "piss and vinegar" comment, I thought that with Sierra Sunset out of the race, he'll be the one to beat. Heck, he could do a Sinister Minister and leave them all in the dust.

What a shame that a race that should have been a G1 race has been reduced to drawing an otherwise less-than-stellar field. I was hoping Harty would send Colonel John to Arkansas.

I would imagine that everyone is looking for Graded Stakes money if they are a little short in that area. That might determine where they will run next time out.

The top twenty 3yolds with Graded earnings is surprising. I'm sure it will be quite a rodeo for those connections with Derby fever and Graded earnings on the bubble.

Regarding BBJ, he looks like a longshot to hit the board at Oaklawn. In his last race he rated quite kindly but lacked the stamina to quicken in the last eighth mile. With that race under his belt and his ability on the SA synthetic surface he could easily run off early, get a breather and withstand an assault at the quarter pole. He's definately not a mile and an eighth horse but circumstances and track bias could make him difficult to catch.

At Oaklawn he will likely get more pressure from a bunch of Graded hungry shooters-it just seems so much more problematic to ship to OP and be successfull rather than lead out of your SA stall to run on a track you already set a World Record over..

On the other hand, if BBJ is piss and vinegar, and that's enough to get him a place to add to the graded earnings he has already, running on the Oaklawn Track will be much better training for him than running on any synthetic track.

I love a blue collar horse, I'd like to see BBJ do well at Oaklawn. He has heart, let's see how far it can take him. If it doesn't take him long then let's hope for a champion career sprinting.

BBJ entered in SA Derby this Saturday. I think that's the right decision. Good luck Jim K.

Yankee Bravo also in. This should be one heck of a race.
