Be interested to know who on the forum has a stallion and whether 2008 breeding season brought you any mares?

Have two stallions standing in Louisiana. One is MUSTANG JOCK by Wild Again o/o an Easy Goer mare. This is his 3rd year standing and didn't breed the numbers we did the first and second years. People waiting to see if his 2 yr olds run next year. Normal for the business. He is a gorgeous animal.

The other stallion, COUNTER PUNCH, is by Cozzene and o/o a Storm Cat mare. We bred more mares to him this year than the other two years prior. One reason we didn't breed the numbers we would have liked is that LA is so hot they have moved in a large number of stallions from all over. There's a stallion on every block!! It will take a couple of years for these backyard breeders to find out how tough it is to stand a stallion and they will get out of the breeding business. We just have to weather the storm for now.

Both stallions are very correct and both had great racing minds. They stand at the Running R Ranch in Opelousas, LA.

We stand:
Not A Corgi (track record son of Pembroke)
Jelly Roll Romp (allowance winner, Runaway Groom)
Halo's Stride (G2 stakes place, Strodes Creek)
Meadaaar (stakes placed, Diesis)
Allawinir (allowance winner, Green Dancer)
Dunsinyne (stakes winner, track record setter, Kris S)
Ugotta (Seattle Slew)
Stormin Tiger (Tiger Ridge)
Fini Cassette (stakes placed, Talc)
Inklet (Disieland Band 1/2 brother to Invisible Ink)
Max Patch (ran forever...Kentucky Jazz)
Skipped Twice (Horse Chestnut)

Overall we had a very good season. A few of the stallions got here very late in the season and in the case of Ugotta we had none of our own mares left to breed to him, and he was able to get a few outside mares. We bred more mares than last year and are looking forward to a wonderful 2009

Must be really exciting getting ready for a first crop to perform and then somewhere along the line get a couple of stakes performers in the mix.

Good luck

Going to have to start paying more attention to your posts. Anybody that can manage that many stallions must be great horsemen! Got an interesting mix of sirelines too. What has been your best progeny so far?

Just curious if any stallion owners take photo shots of the mares they breed to?

aardvark...our stallions are young or new to us with the exception of Allawinir. Allawinir throws a beautiful foal that holds up well and unfortunately his foals have mostly gone to sporthorse homes, the few that are at the track havent started yet but the trainers say they are getting close, so even though we dont own them it will be exciting to watch them this summer and fall. Not A Corgi has very few foals and I sold them to racing homes and then they vanish...doesnt that drive you crazy! The real test is going to be the mares that were bred this year..several stakes winners, stakes producers and hard running mares ...I hate rushing time but I am really looking forward to the foals of 2009.

I have a stallion named Rocking Trick. He is by Phone Trick out of a Storm Cat mare, and won 2 G1 races in Argentina, among others. He won their Breeder's Cup Juvenile as a two year old and at four he won a G1 1000 meter sprint in 54.33 seconds (3/10 second slower than the world record for 1000 meters). He won going long and short, on turf and dirt. He was on the board in nine graded stakes. His half sister, Randy Cat, was two year old champion filly in Argentina. He has an incredible temperament, which he throws, and is a very beautiful well balanced horse. He has the "motor behind" AND the "motor in front" -- absolutely fantastic hip and shoulder.

His first year was slow, I have his ENTIRE first crop (five foals). They are two year olds now and we are just getting them started in training. He picked up more mares the second year, he had a much bigger year in 2007, and 2008 is shaping up pretty well considering I broke my leg in March and have not been nearly so active in recruiting mares for him. He had 24 in '07 and will probably end up with 25 or so in '08. People love his foals, and he gets quite a few return mares.

I believe that would be 3/100th's of a second.

This group definitely has quite a few speedy stallions! :D

Not A Corgi set a track record at Penn Natl for 4.5f in 51.12, his sire Pembroke is a co-holder of the 5.5 furlong on turf world record of 1:00.2 set Hollywood Park July 15, 1995. Corgi's 1/2 brother Max West has set 2 track records including 5f at Philly Park on the turf in 55.91 (the other I think was at Atlantic City) I cant find it offhand but I think Not A Corgi's dam also set a track record

Dunsinyne set 2 track records at Philly Park 12f on the turf in 2:28.2 and at Pimlico 11f on the turf in 2:13.3
