A problem for sure. Sadly, there probably isn't enough money in the game anymore to be able to implement all this stuff. Maybe at one time. Not any more. The 'ol guard fiddled, while Rome burned.
The truth is, we started off with lesser stock. We had to breed a superior horse from mostly cast-offs, not unlike that of when breeding stock was shipped in to NA more than a century ago.
We bit the bullet, restricted flow of horses in and out, and I think we have a product that can compete anywhere in the world.
I spent just as much time growing up in the US as I did in Japan and I can tell you that even the physicals of horses is distinctly different. The same with Australian horses.
I think many of you would be shocked if you had the opportunity to visit the racing programs in either country.

dutrow wins at a 35% clip off the claim because he's an excellent horsemen dont kid yourself....if you dont believe that.. your delusional....and no im no big fan of his but facts are facts and stats are stats.....hey in a perfect world all horses should run on no meds of any kind but thats not being realistic now...is it? lots of horses ...fillys come to mind...need a "little" winstrol to improve there appetites....they are notorious bad doers for the "most" part ...would you not agree ?

I don't believe that. The ones that race 2-3 months after benefit from the Winstrol injections he admittedly gives every horse in his barn at least on the 15th of every month. 35%.

I would not agree.

I'd be really picky about using medication on my horses if I was going to eat them when their career was over. No way would I want to eat a bunch of bute or steroids with brunch. I had a good laugh about all the Northern Taste mares in Japan. Yum, yum.

If that were the case every serious claiming outfit in the country would get the same results because they all use Winstrol. What Tricky Dick uses is obviously not a staple on the backside.
I'm coming in a little bit late to this discussion... but good point, Foggy. I don't see how Winstrol is an advantage since anyone can use, as it is legal in most jurisdictions. Besides, Winstrol just doesn't have the ability to create a super horse, at least in my experience. It can be helpful on some and not really do much on others, but never have I known it to make a night and day difference.
And, the point about vets pushing it b/c it's a money maker is dead on. Anyone who thinks vets aren't pushing as many of these easy money makers as they can just hasn't been around the track enough.
I'm not sure anyone believes Winstrol made him a super horse, but I do think it may have had a huge impact on him if he ran most his career with it and then for sake of ego, wasn't given it.
In humans, stopping steroid injections causes many side effects, including a huge drop in energy levels and often blood flow for physical exertion.
I'm anti-drugs across the board administered to horses on the track for the sake of performance enhancement. That's no secret. The pressing problem we have though, as an industry, is we really don't know the lasting effects of these drugs or repercussions if they're stopped abruptly while maintaining a training schedule.
Food for thought.
