Outflanker-the exception

I usually like to steer clear of stallions with great pedigrees who were duds on the track.

However, I'm wondering if Outflanker is another Not For Love.....

Outflanker has pretty solid sire numbers for a stallion with a pathetic race record.

Very intriguing. What is it about his pedigree? Lots of great pedigreed horses out there from stellar sire producing families who were awful race horses and awful sires. Why is he different?

Any thoughts?

If anyone has inside information about his early start to stud (such as quality of mares) that would be great. However, I believe he has always had a average to below average book of mares.

Outflanker is the best kept secret in the Regional stud books. When you look at what people are paying for unproven sires (okay, me included) it is amazing that Outflanker is overlooked. I bred one of my three mares to him this year and, as long as his stud fee stays where it is or a little bit higher, I will breed at least two to him next year.

He gets runners from average mares and moves those mares up.

I really like Outflanker. a friend of mine a while back had a horse called Out Flankers Token. What a great little racehorse. Small but really solid little guy, could run too. Also has a super temperament.

Good job.... glad to see a few people pay attention to what a stallion actually produces. I say NEVER judge a stud until he has had a couple of crops on track and racing. Great runners are often times duds as stallions(Citation/Spectacular Bid and in recent time Alysheba & Dayjur among others).... and relative unknowns can prove to be excellent sires as Outflanker is proving to be.

Genetics are funny..... Devil's Bag and Saint Ballado were full brothers with DB being the superior runner yet SB was the superior stallion.

When Outflanker arrived from Europe to Bonnie Heath Farm,the intent was to continue his raceing here in the US.However upon Outflanker's arrival, at Bonnie Heath Farm,Bonnie,Kim and Stallion Manager Ken Breitenbecker ,instead unloaded a horse that need so much care.Ken told me that Outflanker was so under weight,and had ,either a blister or saddle sore on his back.

A decision was made ,that it would take longer to get Outflanker back into racing shape/form,than it would to get Outflanker ready for his first season at Stud.

And so Outflanker started his first season with Kenny,went thru the changes of farms with Kenny(Ken Brietenbecker).

I have a fondness for Outflanker,and I have great respect for Outflanker,as in that many steered away form Outflanker ,just because of his race record.

Many may go out and win a couple of big graded races,and OK with me that Outflanker didn't do that,himself.

All I know is that Outflanker holds a place in my heart,and he has a home with many people,including me.
