Many Warren's TB horses in feedlot in AZ

Postby majxmom » Fri Aug 01, 2008 4:20 pm

Seattle Bound, Mr. Bolger, Dante's Inferno, Kriss Kross, two other unnamed stallions, and 40 pregnant mares have wound up in a feedlot in AZ, going through a kill buyer's auction tomorrow. Apparently their papers are still with them. They were apparently given away to someone recently and have surfaced at this auction.

If anyone chooses to help, Priscilla at Tranquility Farm is trying to put together funds to at least rescue Seattle Bound. And some TB people in AZ are planning on going to the auction.

Wasn't Kriss Kross already in trouble at one time? Maybe I am thinking of another stallion...

I'm not aware of that, but I guess it's possible. I was worried that one of the unnamed stallions was Lake George. He had Lady George in his first crop, but has never really bred a lot of mares. I own a sweet Lake George that looks just like him, but she is huge like a draft horse, so I imagine a lot of them might have just been too big to run. Apparently no one thinks that Lake George is among the unnamed, though.

Count me in for something!

Even if everyone who looked at this email put up $5.00
that would go along long way!

The current owner is advertising locally in AZ as selling them with papers, so he must be trying to sell them for maximum profit today. Supposedly they are slated to go through the Pacific Livestock auction tomorrow, so Tranquility Farms is trying to raise as much money as possible to bid on as many as they can. This fellow that owns them now sells regularly to Mexican slaughterhouses. That's no place for Seattle Bound to end up!

There may be an offer for Dante's Inferno.

If you want to give toward the effort, please send your donations to Tranquility Farm tonight so they will know exactly how much money they will have available to them as soon as possible. thanks, nferro!

Full disclosure: I have absolutely no affiliation with Tranquility Farms. I have donated money to them and bought their excellent calendar, but I have no contact with them.

Uh, where is Mr. Warren with his checkbook? That farm is teeming with babies he has bred...

I have heard that they were contacted, but they said that they have over 800 horses, which is why they had given these away, and had their hands full dealing with the ones they own currently.

It's a common enough response.

If you go to this page:

https://www.tranquilityfarmtbs.org/s-donate.htm

You'll see that you can print the form out and mail it in. But the auction is today, I think, so you might call them or email and pledge or fax the form. they only have $600 raised as of this morning. That sure won't buy many.

The stallion Dante's Inferno does have a firm offer for a buyer from KY.

Just to add context, here's why we feel a sense of urgency to move these mares out of the feedlot. Yesterday, a new organization, Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue, was contacted by Animal Control in Ontario, CA, to go out and see what they could do for a couple of horses at an auction yard in Ontario: (THESE ARE NOT THE WARREN TB MARES)

Brace yourselves before you click.

We do not know why Animal Control themselves did not act. If anything would be their job, I would think that this sort of thing would be. SCTB contacted the Alex Brown website, and that's where I saw them, as well as several other people who volunteered to help. A veterinarian on the forum went immediately out to the feedlot with the ladies from SCTB and Saving Horses, Inc. Transportation was arranged, but as the vet feared, the gelding did not make it. He went down and could not be raised, and was thus humanely euthanized. As of this morning, the mare looks pretty good, but she has a long way to go. Horses this emaciated have less than a 35% chance of survival, because the heart muscle has consumed itself, and she is pregnant, to add additional strain.

These are tattooed Thoroughbreds, and they are only about 6 years old. They didn't deserve to be thrown away like this. This Warren's TB thing came up about one half hour after we got these horses in the trailer. It never stops.

I know I've seen on this forum before that there are those who don't care to see fundraising attempts, and for that I'm sorry if you don't like this thread. It's true that they can become a never-ending stream. But I just read yesterday that a majority of CA owners are opting out of the CARMA program, refusing to donate their 0.3% (like maybe, $20) to a fund to retire TBs. Please reconsider if this is you.

Latest update from TQF:

We have a report from AZ that the horses at Quin's lot are all in good condition and do not appear to be going to the sale in Chandler AZ today. A buyer will go to the Chandler sale however and give a report later this morning. He is prepared to purchase quite a few pregnant mares if any do show up, and will record the ID information of any that are not able to be rescued. We are waiting for a list of the names and ages of these mares and will post that as soon as possible. In the meantime please cross post this info to find potential homes for the horses! Thanks to all . Priscilla Clark

I'm, hopefully, selling a number of horses this month, and these photos depict my fear in doing so. How in the world do people let things get this far out of control? I'd shoot my horses before I'd let them suffer as those have, and I feel bad about stepping on a bug.

OMG some of those horses look like death might be kinder than life has been to them. So sad!

If the JC registers over 30,000 foals per year, why can't they add on $20 bucks to the registration fees to cover a retirement grant fund? And Each track ought to pay a purse percentage directly to the State Racing Authorities for retirements.

But then you have to wonder about the human psychology? If there is an organized government or JC program, what will happen to individual responsibility from those who now do feel responsible.?

Mr. Bolg, who is one of the Warren's stallions is way up in years, won over $200,000 back when purses were much smaller, and deserves to find a green pasture for the remainder of his years. Not saying that the others don't, but this guy pulls at my personal heartstrings.

Could Old Friends or TRF do something for him?
