2008 GSV Professional Program Sale

Postby George William Smith » Fri Aug 08, 2008 10:45 am

I have put my 2008 Professional GSV Program on sale for $200 through PayPal. This is a savings of $100. The sale begins August 15 but can be ordered now through my web site.

I'vealso posted the entire Arlington race card for free on my web site

http://www.members.shaw.ca/thematchmaker

All the most updated GSV numbers are there so have fun checking out the numbers and how they play on Saturday.

In addition, in the 5th race is Greer Lynn, Speightstown-Roll Over Baby

When I did a broodmare analysis on Roll Over Baby, my top pick was Gone West....now Speightstown was not a gleam in his mother's eye yet and the mare has been a good producer and he is a son of Gone West. Lots of pedigree strength for speed in the mare and stallion so I would not be surprised with a win or close placing....in fact this filly could be special.

You should note that the filly does have a very obscure but productive bottom line so it will not have a very high GSV score.

Hello
Could you tell me more about your GSV? Is it just for horses that are racing? Or is it for breeding too

Hi Karen:
The GSV was built to help me correctly analyze Genetic Strength in pedigree's and only lately have I adapted it to racing and handicapping.

I have a tutorial page that will give you a good idea of how it works.

It is found at:
http://www.members.shaw.ca/angoss1/graspalphabetical.html

good luck and thanks for inquiring about the GSV

best, George

I just got done reading about half of it. Lucy recomended this to me, but my mare Deaconess was bred to Stormy Jack and I see that it only had a 47 GSV. But my question to you is- because he is new, How do you rank Stormy Jack?

Stormy Jack has a really obscure pedigree which gives him a really low GSV score. However, a low GSV score does not mean that the stallion doesn't become a success if he got some really good stuff from his obscure pedigree. He is certainly doing very well as a stallion. If the good stuff is coming from him then he will continue to do well. If it is because he was rated to the right mares in his first crops, then he will tend to tail off since the first couple of crops for most stallions are going to be the best the get in numbers and quality.

best George

Obscure pedigree

OKay,
So what makes an obscure pedigree?
This does help but I just needed to know.

Bertrando is a good stallion and his pedigree is solid going up through Skywalker but weak going down through Buffalo Lark and Third Martini

The bottom half of the pedigree is weak through Steelinctive and his sire Steel Heart.

Going further down Gummo is not as strong as most Californians think, but the pedigree is strong further back.

In a nutshell, this is a decent pedigree for a mare's genetic strength, but not for a stallion since stallions are rigorously culled and mares are not. That's why you'll find most stallions have lots of common elements to them like Buckpasser, Northern Dancer, Mr. Prospector, etc.

Hope that helps.
