anyone at keeneland sale?
how's the sale going so far? i'm one nervous nervous seller this year
I'm not there, but watching it online.
It does not look promising, just two hours into day 1. A wonderful looking Storm Cat colt out of SPAIN just went under the hammer at $500K and it was pulling teeth to get there.. perhaps even an RNA. That just the stud fee for Storm Cat in 2005.

Watching it on HRTV. Prices are not as high as years past. Still big money there . I would feed most of them,
Thanks,

keeneland sale
Seems like the sale is down significantly. The gavel fell on at least 2 yearlings for just 10K. The auctioneers seem to be working quite hard to get the prices with many stops during the bidding to remind the bidders why they should be coming up with more $$ for a particular horse. I've not seen it occur this frequently in the past - and especially not on the first day. I'm sure there will be a record RNA's.

Not that I am SC fan but I would have thought his colts would have brought bigger prices.
Okay so when all you big timers leave who is going to be around after Sept 17th??? I'm Kentucky bound and would love to 'see' some fellow Pq'ers!! This is my first KEE sale so I am really looking forward to it, but million dollar horses A) probably won't be on my trailer anytime soon and B) do nothing for me
Also I want names of good eats locations.... don't horde them!!!

I don't think the sale is as weak as people think. We tried to buy a number of fillies today, and didn't really get in the ballpark. Some of them that looked like $250k horses were going for $400-500k. People are being selective, which when there's two weeks left to go, I guess they can afford to be.

Irish Cherry
I bet you see Irish Cherry foal in Feb, Hoby Kight bought it, he only sells 2 year olds and only select sales. It was a great price to be the purchaser had nice pedigree and must have had the look of a sprinter or Hoby wouldn't have bought it. He has had great success with the Storm Cat babies. I'm sure he's crying with SC being pensioned....
Thanks,
Kathy

will someone tell me what the heck was wrong with Shamradal's Full brother? his dam is a full to helen street for crying out loud! 25k! that's pathetic. I'm not a giant's causeway fan but that's 1/5th of his stud fee, and that doesn't include his bloodlines.

I don't think the sale is weak either. Prices are down a little, RNAs are up a little: both a reflection of the economy, I would think. Today's median price was 300K, exactly the same as last year. So far, I think things look reasonably solid.
morningside, what hip #s are you selling?
Any yearling in Book 1 that sells for 10 or 15,000 is not a reflection of hard times, it's a huge placement error on the part of the consignor. Most likely, the yearlings that brought prices that low looked like viable prospects until their xrays and scopes were done last week.
Book 1 is an exceedingly unforgiving place. There's no middle market there. If you can't sell at the top, it's a long fall down.

Book 1
I agree, I also think, maybe its not so much placement mabe vetting issues that they were not aware of. The the repository can be the death of a hors going through the ring. Maybe even a throat issue. Cause pedigrees and conformation are scrutinized for this area of the sale. Leads me to believe horse had 3 legs.
Thanks,
Kathy
