Suggestions for More Than Ready mare please

Postby foothillsequine » Thu Oct 09, 2008 4:47 pm

I have a mare by More Than Ready, out of Natural Smile, who I am looking for stud prospects for. She was a fairly good runner herself (15-5-1-2). She is quite correct, elegant looking, fluid movement, and about 17 H. We are located in the Pacific Northwest, and would like to stay in the area, but are willing to go out farther. Breeding to race ourselves. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

To stay in the area I would recommend Delineator a Grade 3 stakes winner by Storm Cat. He has sired some good runners and stands at Woodstead Farm, Chehalis, WA for 2K. This mating would give a 4X5 inbreeding to Northern Dancer and 4X4 to Crimson Satan.

Thanks very much, I appreciate your suggestion. He has quite a few on the track, and has produced graded stakes winners. I will seriously look into this one.

Hi

Delineator is a very nice stallion. Others in the area that may fit your mare (IMO) are Top Account, You And I, and Matty G. Smiler's full sister, Peaceful Kingdom, when bred to the Seattle Slew line stallion Williamstown, produced the stakes winner, Ivar's Big Peaceful (71-16-11-6, $290,881). Top Account (G2 SW) and You and I (G1 & G2 SW) were both excellent performers on the racetrack, have proved themselves in the breeding shed, and match up well with your mare. All four stallions present conduit profiles suitable for Northwest racing. More Than Ready's daughters are a little young to get a handle on what type of broodmare sire might be, but based on his pedigree, I think he should be a good one.
Good luck.

I am confused. Smiler does not have a full sister by that name....

No but Natural Smile does - probably just a typo.

Sorry

It should read Natural Smile's sister (thanks Madelyn). I am multi-tasking, and not doing a very good job of it. Brain cell failure.

Williamstown and Capote are both sons of Seattle Slew and they come from the same female family of Hidden Talent, Matty G. being a son of Capote makes this match look all the better. Good luck with what ever you do. Too bad there is not a son of Deputy Minister close by any longer because another full sister to Natural Smile produced a couple of good runners by Silver Deputy.

Are you referring to Halonator? She won 8 of 9 starts at EMD in '05. He also sired G1 winner Tally'sluckybusride (Oak Leaf Stakes). He has some good runners on the ground. These are only two of them

Hi

Delineator is also the sire of the G3 Longacres Mile winner, Edneator, who set track records at Emerald Downs for 6.5 and 8 furlongs.

Hi Bill,

Yes he is. He is also the sire of Fast Parade, a G2 winner at Woodbine, and Willie the Cat who set a track record at EMD and lowered it by a full second two years later. I really like him and I am trying to decide who would be a better fit, him or Matty G. I am going to go on a stud farm trip to check out conformation etc. Thank goodness gas is cheaper! Thanks again for your advice, it is appreciated.
