Action This Day
Any thoughts about Action This Day's chances to be a quality stallion, or even a commercial success?
I don't know about his ability to throw runners, but the next couple of years will be at least commercially good for him, due to the Machine behind him. I have some pals who are switching mares to go to him because of the "commercial" appeal... so I can pick up very cheap seasons to other horses which they now don't want to use...
I just saw him a couple of days ago. He hasn't been a horse that interests me much but I went with friends who wanted to see him and I got to see Bernstein, Malibu Moon and Toccet at the same time.
Looking at Action This Day's career, all I can think is that he's a horse that got lucky once on the right day. Having Kris S. for a sire is nice, but on the dam's side there really isn't much there until you get to third dam, Bitty Girl. For 10K, I'd spend my money elsewhere.
On the other hand...I hear plenty of people talking about him around here and clearly they're more interested than I am. So while I have my doubts about his ability to be a successful sire, he may turn out to be more of a commercial hit then I'm giving him credit for.

hi KAL
Action This Day was a very nice race horse...but apparently had some back problems...and maybe some other issues.
I sense that being out of a Trempolino mare may run-up a big red warning flag in the eyes of many...but his stud fee seems to take that into account and he may actually be good value at $10,000 Live.
My primary concern may be that Kris S has not been known to sire TOP sires (examples: Prized...Brocco...You and I...Arch etc)...but possibly this guy (a Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner...and champion 2-year-old colt) will be the one to set himself apart.
If you have the right mare...he is probably worthy of serious consideration.
Best to you.

His BC wasn't good race and his other races were even worse... I didn't like him as a racehorse and if I had a mare in US, I wouldn't even think about using him as a stallion.
There's a chance he could be good stallion, naturally. After I saw Hussonet's desperate racing career, and he turned to be such a great sire... Now I can believe thath everything could happen. But there are many, many much better horses than Action This Day!

hi KAL...
Right now he (Action This Day) doesn't seem to capture-the-imagination.
But you know the drill...if his sons and daughters look the part...they may then ignite some "buzz"...and then capture-the-imagination.
If they don't...well...you know how that usually goes.
And even if Action This Day is not a "commercial success" (your description) early on...that is not a death sentence. Certainly that does not preclude him from being a "quality stallion" (your description...I assume you mean sire)...if in fact he's got it in him.
Consider this...Action This Day's own sire Kris S had very little appeal or commercial success early-on...and we know what a wonderful sire of so many high class runners (including champions) he proved to be.
