PIMLICO pedigree (the horse[s])

Postby the Ol'Line Rebel » Sun Dec 28, 2008 12:08 pm

I'm not sure if there is a major mistake in the 1880-1881 Krik's Guide to the Turf, or if maybe there were 2 horses of same name.

In it, there is a progeny list for PIMLICO, who according to it was born 1867 and was dead by 1879. Also, he's listed as by War Dance out of Sister of Charity (x *Knight of St. George). His progeny there are PROBLEM, UTILLA, AND LADY LOU.

The peidgree seems totally off, and I don't know that the Pimlico shown here already is wrong. Can someone verify via Stud Book? Is there another Pimlico about the same time?

Krik had his Pimlicos mixed up. Pimlico x War Dance was an 1871 ch c bred by Keene Richards, KY. The correct Pimlico was an 1868 ro c x Donerail - Maid of Monmouth x Traveler, probably bred in NJ, sold to Dr. J.P. Thom (sometimes shown as Thorn) of Maryland. He stood in Maryland, covered Thom's Utilla (1860 ch f x Warfield's Florizel) several times, getting Utileto 1876 b f, et al. I can't find a Lady Lou x Pimlico, but he got Ladylove 1876 b f o/o Thom's Mystery (1865 ch f) x *Australian. Mystery was also the dam of Problem 1873 b c x Pimlico.

Thanks. Do you know who died by 1879? Maybe Krik's messed up that part too.
