Pics of Indian Ocean and Put it Back

Postby oliverstoned » Thu Jan 01, 2009 9:14 pm

I visited Bridlewood Farm the other day and took these photos right after the stallions got their evening hay. They all munched contently except Indian Ocean who put on quite a show. Put it Back (the last photo) just returned from Argentenia about a week prior where I think he covered 62 mares.

hi oliverstoned

Thanks for sharing the photos of Indian Ocean and Put It Back. I make no bones about it...I like them both VERY much.

Gotta tell ya...I've seen a number of Indian Oceans in training, and I'm quite impressed with what I've seen (and am hearing from horsemen working with them too) thus far.

It would not surprise me if he comes up with a front page horse or two or three this summer/fall (2009)...and Indian Ocean's on a van to KY in the next couple of years...ala his VERY solid (and beautifully-bred) sire Stormy Atlantic.

As for Put It Back...All Things Considered...he is proving to be very good young sire. Seems like many (if not most) of his northern hemisphere-best prefer to sprint including ( for starters) his brilliant son Smokey Stover, young gun Backbackbackgone...and let's not forget his son In Summation, who keeps on rolling and running up a bankroll.

If classics dreams (ala Ky Derby/Preakness/Belmont) are to come true though...Put It Back will likely need some help from mares that could/would inject some staying power.

Best

I love Put It Back as I think he is the most consistant producer of speed that there is right now. He is proving to be a very good sire & thanks for the nice pic you got of him. Did you get the chance to see Keyed Entry while you were there? He is one I have been keeping an eye on & his walking video on the stallion sites I thought he was quiet impressive but would love to hear someones opinion of him that has looked him over in the flesh? Thanks

FOS,
I agree with your analysis of these two guys. Hey Byrn is Put it Back's only distance horse that comes to mind but I would like to see him get some route mares to see what he is capable of that way. We do know for a fact he can produce world class sprinters out of modest mares though. Indian Ocean is very impressive in the flesh and its very hard to predict who will make a good sire but my gut says IO will succeed.

Tom Fool,
I didn't see Keyed Entry, if I go back during the OBS sale I'll try to get a couple of shots of him for you.

Did you see Unbridleds Image?? I know everyone will poohoo him, probably, because his confo shot and race record are both dismal, but I was at Bridlewood in 2006, and quite frankly, I was shocked at the diference in what he looked like in person. Very impressive stallion, I thought. The stallion manager said that many people who brought mares there were changing their bookings to him that year because of the difference when you actually see him compared to pics and all that. Does anyone have any, or has seen any babies, are they as bad as his confo shots looked? They had a couple babies there by him at that time that I was there and they were pretty awesome looking, although all babies are awesome :D Just curious if anyone has seen or heard anything about babies or if anyone has seen him and what your opinions of him are in the flesh. Not opinions on confo shots and race record, we can already see those :)

hi walaa

Yes.

Conformation photos can sometimes be misleading. That said...Unbridled's Image (when I saw him in the flesh) left me cold  . He is NOT a horse that I could recommend at ANY price...even $0.

As for his race record...seems to me that dismal (your word) might be too generous a description; how about pathetic?

The stallions appear to be well cared for/maintained/handled at Bridlewood, but I was NOT impressed (by any stretch of the imagination) by Unbridled's Image. He left me cold...despite being in good flesh, and professionally shown (which is usually the case at a quality stallion facility).

Conditioning, horsemanship and showmanship aside, what I saw and the images I was left with (of US) were NOT positive; for starters, what about his curby...weak-looking...pinfired hocks, which clearly failed him?

That was then, this is now...and his accomplishments as a racehorse sire are certainly not thawing the chill.

Unbridled's Image went to stud in 2005, you might find the following information/statistics (from The Jockey Club website) informative.

Unbridled's Image

Mares Bred 2005 / Live Foals 2006
73 Mares bred............31 Live foals

Mares Bred 2006 / Live Foals 2007
42 Mares bred............22 Live foals

Mares Bred 2007 / Live Foals 2008
32 Mares bred............20 Live foals

Mares bred 2008 / Live Foals 2009
22 Mares bred............?

hmmmmmm.

The above info/stats (from TJC) might offer some perspective/something to think about...don't ya think?

My opinion of Unbridled's Image is what it is...if he works for you though, Good Luck.

No need to be sarcastic and nasty, I just asked opinions. You can give them without trying to make the person who asked looked like some kindof stooge. I have no intention of breeding to him, just asked what you thought. I do appreciate your opinion, but please try and give it without the tone of condescension,(sp??) please.

oliverstoned-Thanks very much for taking the time to post your pictures.

FOS- I didn't find your post sarcastic or nasty-it was very informative and factual. For some, the truth hurts when it contradicts a formed opinion.
I appreciate your insights on stallions. Keep 'em coming.

I am a huge fan of both Indian Ocean and Put It Back. I had two Indian Ocean fillies this year, unfortunately we had to euthanize one of them. Here are some early photos of Brenda's Wampum (Indian Ocean-Miss Moolah). I will be visiting Ocala in two weeks and can't wait to get some pics of her all grown up!

Here are some photos of Gladys Slew (Indian Ocean-Alexie) whom we had to euthanize.

Rising Fever by Put It Back was a fast closing 2nd to Dream Rush in a stakes today at Tampa. Brazilian bred.

Rising Fever is yet another quality horse based on Relaunch over Seattle Slew. I'm not a real big nicks person but you cant deny the prepotency of that cross. Its as strong as Nijinsky-Blusing Groom.

Pics of Indian Ocean and Put it Back

Postby Shadowrun » Mon Jan 05, 2009 7:33 pm

I adore both of these horses and would have used Put it Back in a heartbeat a couple of years ago, if I had a mare that would fit.

I did use Indian Ocean and got a lovely, correct colt who is now two. I have high hopes for him this year....
