Lots of options with Private Account/Key to the Mint Mare

I am thinking of going turf with her as they generally transition to nice jumping horses. However, I do like her with Wildcat Heir. I care to stick with Florida stallions no farther south than Ocala if possible. Conformation is an important factor.

Wekiva Springs

Postby hpkingjr » Mon Jan 12, 2009 4:38 am

This may be odd reasoning but I like Wekiva Springs with her. The foal will be 5x5 Tom Fool (8 to 9 % stakes horse with this inbreeding) plus lots of old stout French blood(5x5 My Babu 9% stakes horse with this inbreeding). Wekiva Springs progeny are exceptionally sound, about 85% actually race. So the chances are, you will get a horse that can jump later AND Wekiva is double copy grey so the foal will be grey, another plus for the second career.

That was a quick sale. But I thought you were keeping the foal for yourself.

Well transition to show from racing for resale. I can't keep them all, especially when I still have the dam and easy enough access to the sire.

I like Colony Light with this mare. He is by Pleasant Colony out of a Rube the Great mare. The foal would be inbred to Ribot/Flower Bowl/Misty Morn/Royal Charger. Colony Light's foals also seem to be pretty durable. One of Private Account's major runners Valley Crossing is out of a His Majesty mare as well. Colony Light stands at Rising Hill. Not sure of his stud fee but I believe it used to be around $2,500 or so.
I also love her with Forbidden Apple. He is by Pleasant Colony out of a Northfields mare. Again Private Account has done well with the His Majesty line and the Northfields line. He stands at Bridlewood with a $5,000 stud fee.

Others that are interesting to me are:
Wekiva Springs (Runaway Groom out of a Tri Jet mare) $1,500 stud fee
Bachelor Blues (Smoke Glacken out of a El Prado mare) $3,000
Concordes Tune (Concorde Bound out of a Tunerup mare) $3,000
Mr Livingston (El Prado out of a Noble Saint mare) $3,500
Aristocrat (Awesome Again out of a Relaunch mare)$3,500
Black Mambo (Kingmambo out of a Alydar mare) $4,000
Bwana Charlie (Indian Charlie out of a Halo mare) $5,000
Indian Ocean (Stormy Atlantic out of a Halo mare) $4,000
Down the Aisle (Runaway Groom out of a L'ejoleur mare) not sure of his stud fee
Sligo Bay (Sadlers Wells out of a Halo mare) $7,500

All of these would be very capable of giving you a nice turf horse with potential for a nice lenghty career.

I would love to know who you decide on, when you do decide

I'm impressed with the % of stakes winners that you cite for the linebreedings to Tom Fool and My Babu. Where did you get these numbers? I have some linebreeding that I would like to try with some mares that I own in partnership. If I can mention the % of stakes winners bred from the crosses that I have in mind, it would make my argument more convincing to the other partners.

Thanks!
