2008 Mares -Bred Report

Postby Monmouth Matt » Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:15 am

http://i.bloodhorse.com/downloads/speci ... 8-1r4e.pdf

Hope I copied it correctly. If not, it's a free download on Bloodhorse.com. As usual.....some very interesting numbers. Some stallions getting a ton of action that I wouldn't breed to for free, and some solid sires getting barely a look. I guess it depends on your breeding strategy, but I think we may see a shift towards some of the breed to race stallions for 2009/2010, that give you a chance to recoup if the auctions stay weak.

Just for fun, here's a few that surprised me:

High:

1. Flashy Bull (150)
2. Scat Daddy (162)
3. Van Nistelroy (172)
4. Rockport Harbor (137)
5. Friends Lake (132)
6. Bob & John (126)

Low:
1. Albert the Great (28)
2. Concerto (37).....would do 60 plus in NY
3. Dixieland Band (49)
4. Gilded Time (51)
5. Gulch (51)
6. Marquetry (29)
7. Pioneering (36)

Quite a few more on both sides, but gotta run......I realize the unique nature of a new stallion, but am surprised at the huge reception the one's listed above got.
And DOWN the stretch they come!

Albert the Great covered 28 mares. Awfully low for a sire who stands for $3500, and has 2 millionaires in four crops, one of whom, Albertus Maximus, is a Breeders Cup winner on poly, a Grade 1 winner on dirt, and a favorite to win the Dubai World Cup this year. Nobiz Like Shobiz was also a graded winner on turf and dirt. He may not have many stakes winners, but he can hit the long ball.

A horse like Albert the Great gets lost in Kentucky. Shame to, he is okay

Well sure, but when these mares were bred, Albertus Maximus wasn't considered anything more than a reasonably nice horse.

I think Albert the Great may pick up a bit in PA. The competition thins out nicely for him vs. Ky, and you have all 3 surfaces in Pa. with the addition of Pesque Isle. He's has the Louis Quatorze situation.....overall numbers good not great, but can certainly pop the big horse at a reasonable fee.

Few others that stood out to me:

High:

Flatter (120)
Half Ours (104)
Sharp Humor (134)
Werblin (86)......wow!

Low

Point Given (70)...reminds me of Lemon Drop Kid...3-4 years ago....ready to explode.
Quite American (79)....adds nice durability
Pleasant Tap (66)

Couple of names that had an increase that I like:

Eltish (64)
Seattle Fitz (124)....we discussed him a few months ago on here
And DOWN the stretch they come!

I'd imagine some of the lower ones, Gulch, Marquetry & Dixieland Band, may have their books limited due to age.

Some of those high numbers are surprising. Really quite the gamble...

Adding a stallion to Mares Report List

Postby foxtale » Thu Feb 05, 2009 3:22 pm

Does anyone know how to get the JC to add a stallion that they FORGOT? ... Request For Parole is not on the 2008 mares bred report. All of my other stallions are listed. I have called them and they said they only update the list once.

That's their answer then... they're not going to do an update so you're going to need to provide that data when people ask.

That seems pretty stupid on The Jockey Club's part. How hard could it be to add Request for Parole?

Another that stood out to me is Seattle Fitz covering 124 mares in 2008! Up from 17 in 2007.

I believe I had heard that Gilded Time had fertility issues which would probably account for so few mares bred
