Halowin (Barbaro's niece) <lol>

Postby Bondama » Wed Feb 11, 2009 8:33 am

Saw this bizarre Craigslist ad here in Florida (see link). Out of curiosity, I looked up this mare's pedigree and it looks quite interesting to me... Mahmoud is just 3 or 4 gens. back. Does anyone have any interest in her? She looks like a great outcross broodmare prospect. The ad is humorous in that they call her "Barbaro's niece" <lol>.

not a horrible pedigree at all; I've seen a lot worse!

By Sunny's Halo with a stakes placed sibling, and her one foal that i could find won 4 races already.

Now, I wouldn't run out and buy her, and I am less than impressed with her current owner's knowledge of TB terminology.

Bondama, go save this poor girl! ;)

Sheesh Springboro! Here I am trying to downsize......but for some reason, I was so intrigued and got such a funny feeling when I looked at her pedigree. I hate when that happens...... We are down to our AQHA stallion and just one mare. The stud is for sale, and as soon as he goes, the mare will be boarded at a nearby show barn for my youngest to play with when her sister goes to train. Argh....why do I even look at freaking Craigs list anyway!?

I am NOT mare shopping.....I am NOT mare shopping.............

we share the same sickness, my dear! I refuse to buy one more horse, and yet, the prices are so darn good right now.

Seriously, IF I were building a broodmare band, what a great time to get other people's mares. I have seen more black type for less than $1000 than ever before.

And of course, had my filly sold for money I could justify buying another mare.

Again, those dang Equine 101 lessons... who knew they would be so expensive? Mebbe I should enroll in an online course instead? LOL!

And just to add to the lure....Sunny's Halo was known for getting flashy (lots of chrome) on his foals.

Okay, it gets stranger still. I went ahead and just sent out an email to that Craigslist poster. Asked 5 questions.....

1. Do you have her jockey club registration papers in hand and if so, do you have the ability to transfer them?
2. How much are you asking for Halowin?
3. Can you email me some photographs?
4. What is her physical condition at present?
5. How long have you had her, and why are you selling her?

The response I got?

no im not selling her i just wanted to know if anybody would like to see her

WTF? I replied, something like "Sorry, I'm confused. Why would anyone simply like to see her?" To which I got no response.

Geeze, that's just bizarro.

Wow....

Would anyone like to see any of mine? I'll put out one of those coin operated feed dispensers like they have at petting zoos.....

I emailed about her too, and she is for sale-$2,500. I think she must have changed her mind since Bondama inquired.

Oh, and if anyone wants to stop by and meet my mare that's fine. I will charge a small fee, but only because she has such soft fur

I got another answer too......she wants a barrel horse, and Halowin is an ex racehorse. <doh>
