Worse, he bred 4 in 07 and ZERO live foals. And he only got 1 of 3 in 06, and 8 of 19 in 05...
Whoever has him should be ashamed of themselves for trying to pawn listing him as a fertile breeding stallion. It's misrepresentative of the horse and a disserve to the horse. What do they think is going to happen to him when he goes to someone that does't know he's infertile or thinks they they'll have better results with him? This is how old stallions like this end up in a can.
Too bad his current owners aren't pensioning him and letting the Secretariat son live out his life in peace. I'll not assume anything about their circumstances; who knows, maybe they can't keep him for some legitimate reason. But there is no excuse for lying about his condition in order to get rid of him. How sleezy. They could try to place him with someone who is sympathetic to his cause. Someone would step up
for him.
I hope Academy Award lucks out and ends up with someone who wants him for sentimental reasons or are with someone willing to retire him in decent conditions when he doesn't get their mares in foal.

Don't jump to conclusions here on infertility.First off, standing stallions in regional programs can be quite frustating to say the least in respect to mare owners.
When standing stallions for $2,000 or less you do not get the greatest mare owners in the world in respect for care of the mares after being pronounced in foal.
Mare's that never get Rhino shots, general care, deaths from unattended foalings.
I've heard all the excuses from mare owner's---you attempt to educate them the best you can but unfortunately it's their decision to listen to you or not.
One stallion I stood one year covered 38 mares with 36 of them leaving the farm with 25 day heartbeat ultrasounds.Of the 36 pregnant mares,9 aborted (and one mare owner actually stated to another person that was the stallions fault);6 died from unattended births,3 died before they were registered from barn related accidents.2 were never registered.
36 of 38 pregnant leaving the farm - so 16 registered foals from 38 mares bred - it's not always the stallions fault tho' most blame the stallion first and always.
Sincerely-Jeff

I agree with Jeff...most do blame the stallion since the JC only counts live foals... I think a better way to do it is by conception rate.
Another thing that bothers me about the TB industry is Fee due and payable when Live Foal Stands and Nurses, for the same reason stated by Jeff above.
In Argentina, they collect the stud fees at 60 to 90 days in foal! It is not the stallions fault when the proper vaccines are not given and unattended births result in a lost foal.
When we bred QHs, the mare owners paid the stud fee before the mare left the farm or before the semen was shipped and were offered a breed back or rebreed to the stallion if she did not carry a live foal.
I am also wary of mares bred numbers...since the following year, when you see a stallion bred 80 mares and only has 35 live foals, how many of those mares book to that stallion the following year...I guess my point is twofold...I also think some farms may add mythical mares to make numbers look good the first year or so. A lot of folks only go by how many mares are booked and don't consider the live foal or conception rate.
