Pedigree critique for possible broodmare

If you have to ask, you shouldn't. I love the Uvira II family, there is alot that one can do with this family from a linebreeding perspective (although some will argue that there is limited evidence to support linebreeding specifically to this family). The mare herself has a pedigree that should provide opportunity for complex linebreedings, which brings me back to my original sentence: if you have to ask, you shouldn't.

Would I breed the mare? That depends on her conformation and movement, and what needs improving. If her poor race record is due to a minor conformational anomaly that can be bred away from, then maybe. If it is due to multiple conformational failures, then the gene pool has probably been poisoned and I would look to find other uses for her.

If you have to ask, then you shouldn't. In this game you are going to have 10 people tell you that you're wrong for every 1 that likes your idea, regardless of what you do. You have to absolutely believe that you know better than everyone else because you get bombarded with free advice that is mostly BS from people who know nothing about horses but will tell you they are experts. If you can't tune out all the bad advice, you're going to constantly second guess your decisions which always leads to worse decisions, so keep your own counsel and keep your expectations modest if you choose to go ahead.

If you really want to breed this mare, take some time to read extensively on breeding theories so that you can plan a mating that has a reasonable chance of achieving the realistic objectives that you set. This mare is reasoably young, you can take an entire year to do research and find the perfect match. Rushing into things won't usually get you what you want unless you catch lightening in a bottle through dumb luck.

Dave C, that's a wonderful post. It encapsulates everything in a very short space. But where are you finding Uvira?

On the other hand, WHAT A PEDIGREE! I'd breed her any day in the week for a sport horse. They don't have to be fast or precocious, and the work is much easier on the legs.

I don't think she is that great of a prospect. You could find better, but if you think there's something about her, then go for it. Just do some research on who you choose to breed her too.

For some reason I thought when I glanced at the pedigree the first time that I saw Uvira on the damn line. Not sure why.

This mare is from the Aloe family. Every bit as fine down through the years. Except in this mare's immediate line you have to go back many generations to a really good producing mare. Still offers some intriguing linebreeding potential.

Her recent family produced a few hard knocking types. I like her pedigree. Inbred to Natalma. You would certainly have a variety of choices in stallions for her. Spend some time and money on stallion matches that might improve what she is lacking physically.

I just don't see quality runners close up, despite the ff being bred to some decent stallions. I would suggest looking elsewhere for sheer firepower.
