I just got an e-mail from a co-worker who askes me for a 'big longshot' to play every year.....this year, I had given him Summer Bird. I sort of thought I'd be getting a ration of crap from him Monday, but no - the person placing the bet for him got confused, and played Mine That Bird instead!

It was only a $5 show bet, but I'm still getting lunch bought for me later this week.

yes Lucy, but dont you fell good nonetheless :D I liked Summer Bird to start with, but besides you and I, who else did :?: The favorite on this board was FF who came in next to last. I was wrong about POTN, he did come in the money, so everyone who dismissed my picks and did not bet me a couple drinks at the sales this fall, eat your heart out :D :D My top 6 picks came in top 12, and no one , I mean No one on this board had crap to say about any of them, but now, dont you know, everybody will be saying I sure thought they had a chance :? :!: :D I love it :D

Think MTB went for something like 8 grand as a yearling. Bunch of cowboys win the Roses. Rex Elsworth and Mesch Tenney reincarnated. You gotta love this game..

The Calvin show was the BEST for me, showboating before the wire, teary tribute to parents, all the hootin hollerin highfivin. Genuine show of emotions, but whats with the crabby trainer, had to have been on some nice pain meds for that ankle AND he just won the KY DERBY you would think he would have been a tad happier.
Just looked at Stallion register photo of Birdstone he looks like a cute large pony a 12yo girl would ride at a 4H show. Mine that Bird is a 4x4 to another nice little horse Northern Dancer.

Yeah, Birdstone is an "unfashionable  commercial stallion".

I read at least, 10 years ago, on the Pedigree Post an article by I forgot who.
The pedigree analyst was working with Mary Lou Whitney who had gone around and reclaimed mares dispursed with all racing stock when Mary Lou's husband, Whitney died.
One mare was Dear Birdie. Who was a "cull" "living in a backyard in KY somewhere " ME Whitney bought back her mare. This pedigree analyst was talking about Grindstone in this article, and why Grindstone was a good match for her mare,Dear Birdie; and was a recommended mating. Whitney was going to get back into breeding to race. I read this article...at least 10-12 years ago.

I sure remembered it when Bird Town and Birdstone won for Zito and ME Whitney.

Too bad I didn't believe today. I wish someone could remember the pedigree expert who wrote for the earlist version of The Pedigree Post.
That person knew their stuff!

And you wonder how they get those DI's? His dad won the Belmont and Travers, grandad won the Derby, and still they get some weird #'s from bloodlines, esp the dam line, and say he cant win?? I have always said those #'s dont mean a thing, they never do in the derby, but people bet by them religiously. Well, a great race no matter who won, no breakdowns, racing sure needed a good day on the public front :) , I loved the whole day, it sure was nice to see horse racing on regular tv for 4 hours :!: it is the only day my whole house gets a deep cleaning :!: I love it :D

I had the same thought abut Mine That Bird in the post parade! "Aww, he'd make a sweet pony hunter."

I'm a dumbass.

I heard a couple other wiseguys mention him for the exotics. I liked his running style, and thought his pedigree moved him up on an off-track. Given that, however did I miss the other Bird....again, I'm a dumbass...
