RA

I guess it depends to some extent if the goal is breed to race or sell. Some have proposed Curlin. I think he is a very poor choice on both counts compared to A.P. Indy. There may be better breed to race than A.P. but an unproven stallion to Rachel? :?

Breed to sell

Postby jagger » Mon May 11, 2009 5:42 pm

Breed to sell = commercial breeding. More emphasis put on a hot or expensive stallion rather than a stallion whose pedigree is actually more fitting for the pedigree of the dam.

Yikes! I forgot to look up gold digger for you and now I am at my other job. I can tell you that a Mr. P inbreeding which would include a gold digger inbreeding has produced ~ 100 GSWers. Check tomorrow for certain, griff.

Do you think Smart Strike would produce a commercial foal??

Actually, proven or not, I believe Curlin would probably produce the highest selling foal..

Smart Strike

Postby jagger » Tue May 12, 2009 7:57 am

Definitely, Smart Strike would be considered a commercial stallion.

I think Curlin is a great race horse but like all who have gone before him, he will have to prove himself in the breeding shed before he becomes a top selling, commercial, stallion. He will have a long way to go to catch up to A.P. and I think it is VERY doubtful that he ever will. IMHO, A.P. has the best pedigree now and perhaps, ever.

dang jagger...the best ever! Wow!

I love a.p. don't get me wrong, and he's the man when it comes to commerical stallions, longevity, etc. But I would argue ever.

But I do think he'd produce a more valuable foal with RA than Curlin.

Now if Curlin proves his talents in the breeding shed! Church is out! He will explode on the scene.

Bernardini

Bernardini gets my vote. Returns almost all the key horses in RA's pedigree.

Rahy.

Total outcross to RA & has shown a liking for ND-line mares....not to mention soundness & class.

I think that you will find Rahy isn't going to be serving mares next year.

a.p. pedigree

Postby jagger » Wed May 13, 2009 11:46 am

jrgators,

See if you can top A.P.'s 10 reines and 11 chefs in the first four generations. Three up close reines. Full of double copy mares who have a total of 69 black type foals in the first 4 generations. For me, the best EVER.

Breeding Curlin to very good mares, especially mares like RA will help him explode out of the breeding shed.. Using RA this way would produce a very commercail foal and hopefully enhance Curlin's value as a stallion

Breeeding RA to mule creates a commercial foal.

On the other hand - looking at Lotta Kim's pedigree on the forum - it looks like a Christmas tree. Hail to Reason, Raise a Native top and bottom, Ribot, Pocahontas, Bold Ruler, Turn To. So they breed her to Medaglia d Oro and pick up a cross of Northern Dancer.

I would say its time to outcross. Rahy would be good or something else by the Blushing Groom line - so I vote for...Swain

Run the race - the one that's really worth winning.
