You may make a trip to Peru for this son.

sad but was it really a surprise? He was 26 and has been pensioned for a few years. Its called life and death..why WTF? crystal?? If the owners do not wish to give specific reasons why does everyone automatically jump all over them. Sadly with 24/7 television and internet, the general public feels entitled to know every detail about everything and I think that is just sad. There is still privacy in this country.
RIP old boy, you were the winner of the first Preakness I ever attended.

Mongoose
Speaking of which, I just found a mare in the DB named Sweet Goose that has the distinction of being by Mongoose, a son of Broad Brush, and her 3rd dam is a full sister to Broad Brush.

I am so sad.
I've only been to the Kentucky Derby once and I bet on Broad Brush. His sire Ack Ack was my favorite racehorse when I was a kid. Broad Brush became my favorite stallion. If I could have bought one of his sons to stand at stud, it would have been Quest Star:

Love the inbreeding to Turn-To and Pocahontas. He was his trainer's (Neil Howard) favorite horse. Unfortunately, Quest Star was a turf horse and he was sold to India to stand at stud, where he died a year later. I do fear for the Domino line.
Mongoose is standing in Peru. If Gorgeous Goose becomes a champion, do you think they will bring Mongoose back to the US?

Broad River
This guy won an allowance race yesterday at Churchill. I'm sure the Ramsey's would sell him if someone wanted a regional sire prospect.

hi hpkingjr...hi Turn-To Fan...hi all
I find that interesting...after all Mongoose (by Broad Brush) really was one heck of a racehorse, but seemed (from my perspective anyway) to be extremely poorly managed and given very little opportunity when retired to stud.
He was basically delivered to the stallion barn at Hill 'n' Dale where he, for all intents and purposes, fell thru the cracks and seemed to be all but ignored...if not forgotten. His next stop was Florida where he landed on the doorstep of a facility that seemed to be clueless when it came to standing/managing/marketing/promoting stallions.
Mongoose's next move was to another facility in Ocala where the horse seemed to be misunderstood (if you will), and was seemingly managed more like a horse with no credentials than a high-priced son of Broad Brush that was not only a 2-yo stakes-winner, but also a G1 winner at age 4. Mongoose deserved better...a whole lot better...but was ultimately expatriated.
Despite the lack of opportunity...Mongoose is the sire of a potential super-star daughter named Gorgeous Goose.
Who knows...maybe there would be an effort to bring him back if Gorgeous Goose (by Mongoose) continues to dazzle. WOW...she is one VERY special filly. louis finochio has been following Gorgeous Goose (by Mongoose) and reminds us what an extremely special talent she is.
It's clear she's a WOW kinda race-filly...and it wouldn't surprise me if she vaults herself into the elite category, if she hasn't already. Sparks fly and hearts pump when she kicks it into gear and makes her move...WOW is she electric !!!
Hollywood Park apparently recognizes GG's talent, understands she's becoming a fan favorite...and is taking her quite seriously. After all, they linked her recent Wilshire Handicap-G3 win for viewing on youtube.com.
The link was posted elsewhere on PQ in response to louis finochio...but that was then, this is now. So if you'd like to see Gorgeous Goose in action, and judge for yourself, just click on the following link...
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_t ... eous+goose .
Then (when the youtube page appears) click on the video titled Nakatani Completes Hat-Trick Aboard Gorgeous Goose In Wilshire, fasten your seat belt, and sit back knowing that you'll see a rousing performance including F-16-like afterburners .
Gorgeous Goose beat a serious group in the Wilshire H including Diamond Diva (who by the way beat BC winner Ventura in the Cash Call), Charming Legacy, Belmont Cat, Bel Air Sizzle, Miss Singhsix, TizFiz etc.
Bottom line...Gorgeous Goose is special, VERY special.
Would Mongoose be returned to again stand in the USA if GG becomes a champion? Hard to say, but if Mongoose is repatriated...he'd likely be much better understood, much better managed, much better marketed, much better promoted...etc etc etc.
