No Belmont for Rachael Alexandra

Postby Bedouwia » Fri May 29, 2009 2:34 pm

Jess Jackson finally made an announcement today. The filly will not run. This will allow Calvin to ride Mine That Bird. Personally, I am quite happy with this decision.

In my mind she would not have held on for 1.5 miles, jmo... now MTB can do his thing without a frisky filly jamming his game lol!! :D
trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while. :)

I'm happy too, I think she went to the well in the Preakness and it might have knocked her back a little. There are plenty of races she can go in against the boys coming up, the Travers or the Haskell are just 2 of them. Let her rest up and see what comes next.

I asked many trainers if they would run her in the Belmont, they all said no. As Charlie Whitingham said, you cant dance every dance. U were right Charlie.

I think it would be cool if they entered her for the triple tiara.

Good move, had she won the Derby before the Preakness it would have been different.

Louis..are reasons they gave for no race all the same ? I guess distance was the common one.

The best comment i received was from my friend Chris, the foreman for Patrick Biaconne. Chris said that when filly's run against colts they have to run harder than when they run against filly's, & it takes too much out of them. Congrats to the Jess Jackson camp for their correct decision.

Though sports love high competition..but not at any expense..the initial fear of mine was..if JJ sent the girl there..it
could very well turn out to be the ONE AND DONE for the poor fella..it is better never than having a regret.

Funnily enough Mine That Bird was a longshot winner of the Derby who garnered a lot of respect with his similar brave effort in the Preakness and now I think that with ordinary luck can win the Belmont. So all in all he may have been a triple crown winner if Rachel had not been sold, I mean well...........who'dathunk? This is a great game!

I'm also happy that Jess Jackson and company are planning to take really good care of this filly, so that she can retire sound at some point and enrich thoroughbred bloodlines with talented progeny.
