Mine That Bird's papers stolen

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/ ... from-truck

I don't wish Woolley any troubles at all, but for some reason this just floored me. I'm sure that there are a lot of trainers that keep their horse's papers in the glove compartment of their truck, probably most of them. But that particular set of papers...I'd be so $%$%#$%# pissed if someone stole my papers with the Ky Derby win recorded on the back, I'd never risk leaving them in the truck.

When I had my first horse in training, my trainer had a blow up with his wife and they separated. We were a few days from our first start, and the wife (who had provided ALL of the money in the relationship) repo'ed his truck with my filly's papers in the glove box. She was so mad at him that she was in glee to screw him with his entries. He had to ask me to call his wife and beg for my own papers so we could enter. Somehow, I wouldn't think that a KY Derby winner's papers could be in the same predicament. This has certainly been a bizarre year.

Isn't it on-line so physical papers are made redundant ? Physical one can be easily faked too and far from handy.....dont understand.

You can (could) run a stake horse without papers in the office. You can't run a claimer as the papers must go with him if he is claimed. It is also the way the horse identifier checks the physical description and tattoo number of the horses in the paddock before the race and the last word on his eligibility. Both the racing secretary and the identifier have those papers in hand between a horse being entered and saddled. It is not going to keep MTB out of the Belmont, but it would keep your $10,000 NW2L in the barn.

A) to answer the question regarding keeping papers on-line-Alot of trainers are not up on or are still skeptical of technology...Not all of them use computers.

B) I would be so F-Ing Pissed about them being stolen. What kind of prick would do that?

That's interesting. I always thought you could enter by having the papers faxed, but you couldn't run unless the papers were in the office. I never realized there might be a distinction between claimers and stakes horses.

Yeah -- talk about getting a spot on "America's Dumbest Criminals." Can you imagine how fast THAT posting would be reported to law enforcement?

It is retarded that 50 years from now, someone will find Jockey Club certificates for him on antique roadshow or something.. "No, our family never had horses, but we were told this one won the derby"..

It would be dumb to put stolen goods on ebay, and I think that would cost you mucho jail time.

And Really,, who thinks just because they are missing JC certs, what he wont be able to run???

Just foolish.

I bet he put them in his cast for safe keeping and forgot. And maybe his glove box is his version of a brief case.
