purchasing on-line, out-of-state

Postby mightyhijames » Fri May 29, 2009 1:47 pm

has anyone actually purchased a horse they found on line (i.e. equinenow, etc.) that was pretty far out of state, such as virginia to arizona? if so, and assuming you don't know anyone in that area, how did you go about it? strictly by pics and email/verbal correspondence, did you fly/drive out there, etc?

I have purchased at least 5 that way. I communicate via e-mail and phone. I have the seller take pictures. I get a Vet check done. Even if it is something as simple as having the Vet pull a coggins. This way, I am sure the horse looks like the one in the picture. If the horse is a more expensive one, then I do a full Vet check.

Several bought and sold successfully. Dont be afraid to ask the farm for vet references etc.

i'm the poster child for buying out of state via internet. I've had a few surprises, but for the most part it has connected me to horses I could never have found before.

Included are mares by Silver Hawk, Lord Avie, Silver Buck, Lit de Justice, Tinner's Way and Bianconi.

I also picked up a dandy Woodman son and a nice Swain son.

One of my mare's was bought online equinenow. I didn't do anything but make sure her papers matched her when she was delivered to the breeding farm. She had won at SA only made $24,000 but I liked her breeding...and I did a little research on her. Saw pics of her 2 reg tb's from previous years......now I have a beautiful yearling filly and she's been bred for a 2010 foal. Im very happy!

Boodmare's would be my only purchase online.

I've sold a few out of state and via e-mail/phone, even as far as IN. Posted recent conformation photos and maybe a short jogging in hand video. Only 1 had a full vet check done for soundness, others were just for simple coggins. We did the Bill Of Sale over e-mail and they sent payment and a shipper. All went well, no issues, buyer was always happy!

Bought two stallions on line and both have worked out fabulously.

on line sales

Postby KMO_racing » Sun Jun 14, 2009 9:07 pm

I have completed many transactions on line buying and selling. 99% have been great transactions. You just need to ask the right questions, see pics and vetting. Cover your but and things usually go smoothly.
Thanks,

Kathy
