Another thread on inbreeding
I was thinking about back in the dark ages when I was an Ag-Ed major and what I was taught about inbreeding. Back then inbreeding was something you did with herds. It was very close-up, brother sister, sire to daughters and dams to sons. It was a high waste practice early on in the hopes getting a few superior individuals. Culling was the secret. These superior individuals would then be bred back un-related individuals and to some close relatives. The King Ranch had some individuals who only had two horses in the second remove.

I think that most of our foundation stock was bred like that up close. I think that it could still be a sound breeding tactic, if one had enough mares by a really good sire and if that sire had some really good sons at stud. For racing purposes you "might" have to sacrifice the F1's, but F2's and out crosses should payoff on the track. No one wants breed for two generations and no one wants to breed and cull. I really don't think that there are many breeders who know what "type" means. I'm not sure I do.

Its also interesting that you can take time to look up the arabs but nothing with Quarters and thoroughbreds and any other breeds that werent mentioned. Im sick to my stomach that some people need to generalize a breed with out looking at other breeds.
Yes there are inbreeding all over the place, its rather discusting to point fingers at one breed.
This will be my last post on this forum. I see no reason why I should sit and waste time for idiocy and ignorance.

Arabians were what was asked for, but here is a Thoroughbred example:

As the horses mentioned were quite successful, I fail to see how pointing out their breeding can be an insult.
Clearly this sort of inbreeding has worked when done carefully, which I believe is what Roger & Lisann were trying to point out.

I might be taking your post wrong, but I don't think that one has to be big time anything to have a real love of their breed. I love the study and the hands on, the conversations and such, but I am not big time. If I've taken you post wrong, I'm sorry.
