He had a bout of colic and they found a strangulated part of his cecum after they opened him up.

hi Susan09...hello halfbridled

Big City Man was an outstanding racehorse and a world traveler; Ocala to Calder/SoFla...Calder to Dubai...who knows where else, including between Dubai and his final destination, Hollywood Park/SoCal.

Sad to see such an ending for such a fine colt, but reality is that shadowy (for lack of a better word) issues seem to regularly be found/hover around the colt's SoCal (and final) trainer Mullins who, if you recall just a couple months ago, was suspended after apparently being viewed (on camera?) administering/giving something to a colt he trained (that by the way was in the detention/security barn) and was entered/scheduled to run in the Bay Shore. Bottom line...a rule was apparently violated (oh those silly rules  ), Mullins was reportedly suspended 7 days and fined ($2,500 ) for his action, and that colt was scratched.

According to the Associated Press Mullins maintains that he did not violate any rules but felt it necessary to accept the punishment and move forward. AP quoted Mullins as follows "To put an end to this unfortunate event, I take responsibility for the infraction and accept the penalty imposed," he said in a statement. "I have dedicated my life to caring for thoroughbred race horses. I owe it to I Want Revenge, his owners, the racing fans, and, indeed, the entire racing industry to end this distraction now." (for what it's worth, that was pre KyDerby, and I Want Revenge never made it to the KyDerby)

As for Big City Man...a necropsy is likely being (or has been) done (with certainty if the colt was insured) and it'd be interesting to know the COMPLETE findings/results if/when they are released. If there is nothing to hide (and I for one hope there isn't)...it would likely behoove trainer Mullins (after all, he is no stranger to controversy, fines and suspensions) to get the COMPLETE, Unvarnished, Unredacted necropsy disseminated to the public.

A sad ending for Big City Man...he was one VERY nice colt.
