nick ratings
I am always trying to learn....a gentleman told me that if I took my broodmare and did a nick with my stallions sire then deducted one---ex if came up A+ it would be an A ... this was a inexpensive way to get a nick report since his sires is free??? I really can't afford to do the real way so can anyone tell me if they believe this?? Or maybe you can tell me a system that would give me a close rating.. I am curious bout the way we have been breeding.
I think the best way to get a nick from either True Nicks or Enicks for a stallion that is not "free" is to find a stallion that is supported on their site that is from the same sireline as your stallion. Most of the time those nicks, unless they are from a very established stallion, are for the line, not the sire. So if your stallion is from the Mr. Prospector line, or the Storm Cat line, or the Blushing Groom line, etc., find one on the site and plug him into the hypo with your broodmare. It's not perfect but can certainly give you an idea of the nick. If you can find a sire that is by your sire's sire all the better.

Although I'm not sure Goldmine has any of the free services that enicks or true nicks have, the Pedigree Match feature is nice in that it does incorporate the broodmare into the equation.

YES, forgot about the G1 goldmine too. It's great, and they also have a free deal with goldmine, but it does the G2 and G3 guys, but it's still very good!
Too, some of the bigger farms will let you access their stallions, and you can get an idea of what you'd be getting into with them that way.
