Easy Goer/Danzig
I've been curious for some time about Easy Goer's affinity for Danzig blood. There is G2 winner Composer who is out of a Danzig mare, G2 winner Desert Hero(Sea Hero x Multiply), Gr2 winner Mull of Kintyre(Danzig x Retrospective), G1 winner Astronomer Royal(Danzig x listed winner Sheepscot), G3 winner Sea Chanter(War Chant x G1 placed Smooth Charmer) among others. What is there from a pedigree standpoint that would show why these two seem to work so well together?

Look at the strength of both pedigrees. Easy Goer is full of influential horses and mares. The four components of his pedigree are filled with Chefs and Blue Hens. If Danzig has a weakness on paper, it is his tail-female, but you would never know by his breeding stats. Seth Hancock had to have his arm twisted by Woody Stevens before he would stand DANZIG in KY. Look at all that St. Simon beyond six generations. If you believed the "inbreeding argument" floating around on the racing board, you have to wonder why DANZIG was successful.
I've been doing some reading on sirelines and I was shocked to read that Bold Ruler was not well thought of when he went to stud. No one thought he could throw the classic runner. The Phipps actually had a great deal of faith in him, but to get better quality mares to him, they entered in foal share arrangements. It worked. Somethingroyal was chosen and along came BIG RED.
I am glad you made this post, because I really hadn't looked that closely at EASY GOER. Very solid pedigree.

so based on this article -
What the operative part of Danzig's pedigree is has been a hot question among pundits and I will join in the fray with my two cents worth as well. I have heard Turn-to suggested as THE nick with Danzig as well as Grey Flight and that the unfamiliar foreign strains of Danzig's second dam, including a double to Tracery who is also in Northern Dancer, ascribed some mystical influence -
would a smart strike mare theoretically breed well w/outflanker or louis quatorze?

Didn't look at this too closely, but it looks like a direct Smart Strike to Danzig mare breeding had great potential. I counted six blacktypes with Soaring Free, a 1999 gelding, making a million or so. Using a son or grandson of Danzig may have poor results. Outflanker is relatively new. LQ has been around sometime. Nothing jumped out at me that makes me think a SS mare to either would be a good investment.
I personally like Turn-To and HTR and it looked like LQ was productive with the Halo line.
Check it out with a hypothetical breeding on Equineline. They show the nicks. See what shows up. I am sure others have an opinion on this. See if you can open this thread up a little. I just posted the link because it was one of the few I could find on Danzig and I was trying to be helpful. Northern Dancer is everywhere. I only have one mare out of 9 that has any ND and her sire was Sir Cat and it makes life much easier for me researching pedigrees.
