Hi! I'm new, and I thought this might be a good subject for my first post.

This last November, we (my family and I) purchased a 6 year old TB Mare for $1200, although we've been making monthly payments on her. Her stable name is Mariah, but her registered name is 'Sportin a Tude.' Well, we just payed our last payment yesterday, & received her registration. We researched her lineage today.

What we found:

Sportin a Tude by Valdali out of Short Temper

Valdali by Darshaan out of Delsey out of Kelty by Venture by Relic by War Relic by Man O'War.

Valdali Pedigree: http://www.pedigreequery.com/valdali

She was really spooky at first, but she's gotten better. Here are a couple of pictures of her. And look! She's got the large, irregular shaped star, just like Man O' War had. Oh, and two white socks on her back legs that a lot of her ancestors had. That's my sissy in the pics with Mariah. :)

I was tickled pink when I saw this, because it means that she's related to (however distantly) Seabiscuit, War Admiral, Secretariat, and who knows how many others. I don't think her previous owner knew what she had. She's been to the track, but has never raced. She's got the tattoo on her lip. It's 21 something or other. I can't remember the rest of it. We're going to contact the owner of Valdali and get more info on the Dam, and when we do, we're going to enter Mariah and her mother into this site's database. We hope to visit Valdali's home during Spring Break, meet Mariah's mom and dad. *clap*

I'm so happy... ^-^

Best of luck with your mare... I have added her and her dam to the database, they were not there. So now you can look her up here. The tattoo on her lip should match the number on her registration papers, except that the 99 at the beginning of the number will be represented by the letter "C".. then the rest of the number should match.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Apparently, you mare DID race - once. It was on 8/26/2001, and she didn't finish in the top three, but earned $380 for it, so she must have run either fourth or fifth.

Her dam has two other foals, both by a stallion named Emerald Creme, who stands at Hedrick Ranch in Sanger, CA. One is a four-year-old gelding named Super Temp (I added him to the DB), the other an unnamed 2-year-old.

Good luck with Mariah....she has a very sweet face! :D

Wow. Thanks you guys! I really, really, really appreciate you doing that for us.

And she raced? Really? Where'd you find that out? We looked and looked but couldn't find anything about her on the net. Was there a website you visited to get that tidbit of info? We'd be just tickled if we could maybe find a video file of that race, or even a photo. :D

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you. That was so cool of you. :)

The sire of your mare is out of a mare, Val Divine, who produced FIVE male offspring that were winners and went on to stud in Europe, which is pretty remarkable. One of them, a half brother to your mare's sire, YASHGAN, is currently standing at the Irish National Stud.

Here is a summary of his race performance stats from this site:

16 Starts: 6 - 4 - 4, 428,839 pounds

WON Oak Tree Invit. H. gr.1, Prix Dollar Gr.2 (Fr), Prix de Guiche Gr.3 (Fr), San Gabriel H. Gr.3

FYI The sire's side of your mare's pedigree is loaded top and bottom with some of the great staying bloodlines in recent thoroughbred history. (Her bottomside, or female side, isn't shabby either, but very N.American as opposed to the European topside) If your mare takes after her sire's side at all she should be able to gallop all day and might make a great little jumper/event type mare assuming her legs and feet are clean and in good shape.

Hi Val...I sent you a "pm" (priviate message) nothing in it very priviate though. I knew the last owner very well of your mares 2nd dam. Sharp Temper was a lovely HUGE mare. Sadly she died foaling a couple years back. Your mare is colored and marked much like Sharp Temper. Somewhere among my photos I have a fairly nice picture of her and if you like, I can send it to you.

I found out that she raced by looking at the American Procuce Records, a CR-Rom that lists the breeding records of all registered Thoroughbreds, along with the race records of their foals. The date of the race came from Trackhorses.com, but because the race was so long ago, I was only able to get the date of the race, not its location.

Someone else here might know that, or if not, you can try sites like Brisnet.com, which sell lifetime charts for $5 or so. From there you can try contacting the racetrack to see if they have the film of it archived. :D
