Zenyatta

How often does Smith hit her? He was just hand riding her to the finish today.
She's just a beautiful animal.

I'm pretty sure Mike Smith was hitting her in her last race at Del Mar (which I saw in person), but she wasn't cranked up for that race, so he had to work on her and she just barely got there by a nose. However, she was going so fast at the wire that she was several lengths in front of everybody else a few strides past the wire.

She is a gorgeous horse and she puts on a great show, strutting and pawing.

She just toyed with those other girls. Now the big question: BC Ladies Classic or BC Classic?

depends on who comes over from Europe. I think she can beat the U.S. males on her best day..the Euros, they are going to be tough to beat.

I think they'll give her a shot with the boys in the Classic. My gut tells me she will beat them. I think she'll love a mile and a quarter and with a legit pace will be tough to hold the last 3/16ths..

Well, with Sea the Stars out of the picture, I would bet that the Classic is even more a possibility for Z.

I think this is Zenyatta's chance at HOY. A win in the Classic and HOY is hers. Without it, I don't think she has a chance. No way she beats RA without a win in the Classic. Zenyatta has not beaten any colts, much less older colts and has not beaten ANY Triple Crown series winners. Rachel has beaten 3 Triple Crown series winners as well as older colts.

I don't understand why running against males is a standard for females to "rise" to. They run against each other all over the world as a matter of course. Why is the male horse the standard? Most of the "boys" running in America today can't compete with America's best fillies and mares -- Rachel and Zenyatta aren't the only two -- and certainly not against Europe's best females. Goldikova, Oujia Board, Makybe Diva, Sunline, Urban Sea, Zarkava, etc., etc., etc. And have we already forgotten Rags to Riches?

Interesting to note, as a side item, that the first Belmont Stakes was won by a filly named, appropriately, Ruthless.

Duncan-
What you are saying is SOOOOO TRUE. But HOY is like an all all around horse. I think people would look down on a colt for entering in a mare race but also too, I didnt see any fillies run up against Curlin? I believe there is an option for fillies and mares to join the boys in the races.
So in other words a horse has to do the extrodinary to become HOY.

Karen, yes -- HOY extraordinary. But remember it was Rags to Riches who looked Curlin in the eye in the Belmont and said, "Hey boy, outta my way!" And the classic photograph of that head-to-head run down the stretch shows a look in Curlin's eye that is identical to the one in War Admiral's when Seabiscuit decided it was time to make him a rear admiral. :-)

My HOY (in America) so far is Zenyatta (how can you argue with perfection?) or Summer Bird, who would qualify if he can win the BC Classic.

Duncan-
There is something else that I keep hammering about. How much was Rags carrying Vs Curlin? Weight and distance plays a huge part in Horse Racing.

Secondly. The female horses now adays are doing alot more than just winning one race with the boys, Rags was never HOY.
LIke I said before they have to show they can do exraordinary things. Much like R. A. and Zen and Peppers Pride.
Was Rags 13-0? No. That is why the females compete with the males to prove that they are beyond just toying with their group and deserve HOY.
As far as Zenyatta - anyone can see shes toying with her company. But with Sea of the Stars gone, and with Mike Smith riding Tiago, who hasnt done too well in his last two starts. Now what? No Tiago for the Classic or who will ride Tiago for the Classic if Zen goes?
We have Lethal Heat's Trainer concidering her for two races, hoping that Zenyatta takes a chance at the Classic. I believe hes looking for Cal Bred of the Year for her. Running her against the boys in the Down Hill Sprint is something extraordinary.
Lets not forget Col John and Summer Bird. Has Summer Bird run in Ca?? Its a different world coming from the east coast to the West Coast and getting used to a different Surface.
Zenyatta is a pretty Fine mighty design horse that needs ( from the looks) competition. Instead of running a race and winning with no effort, can we see a HOY female that can go THE CLASSIC DISTANCE.
Since when did R.A. go a mile and a quarter????
Thats why the females run with the boys to get a better shot at HOY.
