Did I hear correctly that the Moss's boutht Zenyatta as a yeatling for $60,000?
Well that was a bargain... Mike Maker claimed Furthest Land for $35,000 a year ago October, that was a pretty big "bargain." I also recall chatter about one of the other winners (can't remember just now which horse/race) RNA'ed for $14K and went "home" and now had won a BC race. There were more "bargain" horses winning BC races than auction bell-ringers, I think.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
I was just reading in the Cal Thoroughbred this month: Moscow Burning was neurotic and her owners obviously didn't care if they lost her, so she ran 1st time out for $12,500. She broke out and hit the outside fence, and still won. Somebody noticed and claimed her for $25,000 next out. They made $1.4 million and sold her for a million at retirement.
Of course, nothing beats Seattle Slew: $17,000 purchase, worth $120 million in his old age.
