I have three decisions to make. No rush, but I want to find interesting matches that offer some commercial value, but fun racing potential. The three mares are:
Staria (Unbridled's Song/Starboard Tack by Seattle Slew):

Perfectly Natural (Forestry/Born Perfect by Mr. Prospector):

Candy Buttons (Candy Ride/Pelicus Affair by Pentelicus):

Here's who I have narrowed it down to, so far.
For Staria, Top pick: Yes It's True. Other choices were Langfuhr, Sky Mesa, Dixie Union (probably booked up), I liked Hard Spun and Invasor too. Staria raced, showed some pickup late in her races but never won. She's not a large mare, grey, somewhat lighter frame and bone.
For Perfectly Natural I am less sure, I was leaning toward Yes It's True and Lewis Michael, but if available would love to go to Tiznow. Another top choice would be Corinthian. PN won a few, she was very fast but could not hold at a distance. I would think a strong stallion who's a good "breather" would help. Very racey, pretty mover.
For Candy Buttons, I really like 3 choices: Mizzen Mast, Broken Vow or Tale of the Cat. CB was unraced due to a nagging tendon flare-up, breezed and moved very well. Physically, good size and strong.
Any thoughts, much appreciated.

Daughters of Unbridled's Song go good with Storm Cat line stallions.
The cross of Storm Cat over Unbridled's Song gets a really good VGS of 6.23 based on 7 SWs.
The meaningfulness of this is strongly backed up by the reverse cross of Unbridled's Song over Storm Cat also getting a good VGS of 5.92 based on 5 SWs.
For this reason I recommend you breed Staria to Tale of the Cat, who has a VGS of 25.12 based on 2 SWs with Unbridled's Song mares.

I've thought about the Unbridled Song/Storm Cat cross and considered Tale of the Cat with Staria. So far, Staria lost her first foal, a Forest Wildcat colt, then had a special Rahy filly. She is in foal to Any Given Saturday. I think you have to be careful with the Storm Cat son you chose to mate with. Not so sure i am ready to venture down that path with Staria, yet. That's one I have to think on...
War Chant for Perfectly Natural is interesting Madelyn. Anything in particular you like about it?

I like that Perfectly Natural/War Chant would put her going back to her own tail female through Hollywood Wildcat... and the similarity to Molto Grande, War Chant's best to date. The ND and RAN linebreeding looks very strong. I think the fee is more in line with what I would budget for Perfectly Natural's first mating. Of course, there is conformation to consider and I NEVER send a mare to a stallion without inspecting the stallion first.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Very good points, and I agree that the stud fee is much more in line nowadays. Right now, Perfectly Natural is in foal to STREET SENSE. I talked to the bloodstock experts at the farm, and approached them with some of these ideas. Like you said, they have the added luxury of having the physical specimen before them. After some discussion, we have it narrowed down to the following.
Candy Buttons: Mizzen Mast:

Inbreeding to MRS. PETERKIN too interesting to pass up. Plus, I really like Mizzen Mast.
Perfectly Natural: Yes It's True:

This would be one snappy horse, but I like the outcross. And depending on how the year goes, YIT is somewhat commercial if need be.
Staria: Tale of the Cat:

More of a feel, since Storm Cat sons can be hit or miss, this is one I really like. Sire of one of my favorite horses, Gio Ponti... I think this will work well, and like before, commercial value too.
That's where it stands today. Next we get a hold of the farms and set the deal.
