Black Type Percentages From Inbreeding

Postby Patuxet » Mon Apr 26, 2010 3:02 pm

Jockey Club Information Systems has developed a software program that draws on the JC database and is more sophisticated than other similar programs. Before the JC launches it a participant in one of the online forums that I frequent has been testing it and sharing some of his results.

An interesting feature is an 'Inbreeding" option where one types in a name and a range (say generations 2 through 4) and up comes a statistical summary of how well inbreeding to that horse has done. One of the tests he ran was for inbreeding to significant broodmares and Almahmoud came up with monster figures.

672 foals of racing age inbred to Almahmoud;
506 (75.3%) were starters;
350 (52.1%) were winners
49 (7.3%) were black type winners.

Next closest with Black Type were: My Dear Girl - 2.9%, Natalma - 2.8% and Somethingroyal - 2.7%.

They were followed by Gold Digger - 1.9%, Miss Disco - 1.7, Cosmah, Grey Flight and Busanda - 1.6%, Shenanigans - 1.4% and Rough Shod - 1.3%.

So much for the Rasmussen Factor!

When the program was run for stallion inbreeding Nearco topped out with 3.9% Black Type, followed by Native Dancer - 3.5% and Mahmoud - 3.4%.

Nearctic - 2.9%, Hail To Reason and Nashua - 2.8%, Buckpasser and Nasrullah - 2.7% and Royal Charger - 2.6%.
The ubiquitous Northern Dancer cross tied with Hoist The Flag at 2.3% and Raise A Native and In Reality with 2.2%. Halo and Bold Ruler scored 2.1 % and 2.0 respectively.

Interesting, how much of this is due to Northern Dancer and Halo? Or Sunday Silence in Japan? Or Sunday Silence over Northern Dancer?

Interesting stuff

I wonder if you can check 3 occurrences of inbreeding over several additional generations?

Awesome...I've been looking for this information for quite a while! Do you know when this software is going to be available to everyone?

Byron Rogers, a TrueNicks partner, has posted the following:

It is pretty well known now that for the past 6 months or so Alan and I have been helping The Jockey Club Information Systems (TJCIS) develop a Pedigree Analysis Program. There are a number of pedigree programs in existence, some online and some on your hard drive, but no one program has access to the TJCIS Equineline database - the largest and most complete database of thoroughbred foals and their race records in the world.

The new program not only gives you access to this database, but also has real time records that are added instantaneously so, as an example, when a foal is named the record is available to you - no waiting for a disk update, and no uncertainty if the record is indeed the official record. For that reason alone, we believe that this program is the best on the market and something that neither of us would be without.

We have also built in a couple of functions which allow you to interrogate their database and return results based on the number of times that something has been tried, a feature we have no doubt will appeal to you all here. No longer will you have to wonder if inbreeding to certain ancestors has been successful and if so, how many times it has been tried. You will be able to get the answer.

The program has been released this morning with a 4 day FREE trial. For those with an Equineline account, access to the program is from the main Equineline menu (you will see it on the left hand side of the banner menu).

If you don't have an Equineline Account (http://www.equineline.com) we suggest that you get one (it is FREE also) and try out the Pedigree Analysis Program today. We are sure that you will like what you see.

Thanks to Adrian Parry, Michael Ventura and David Miller for running Beta testing on the program also, they did a stellar job.
