I think it was a great call by NYRA, they're simply doing what is best for the horse.....it sure beats having one drop on the track from heat exhaustion. TJ

Delaware and Philadelphia, both of whom cancelled today due to the heat, will probably end up following suit.

We routinely run at Pleasanton in 105 degree weather (with dry humidity), and every day it is that hot, at least two horses will collapse that day on the track after racing. It always takes too damn long to get a hose out to them, and the crowd gets very distressed because they don't understand that the horse will be ok in a few minutes after getting sprayed down. I think it is an absolutely fantastic decision by all of the East coast tracks to cancel racing in these very stressing circumstances. It's not worth the effect on the racing public OR the horses.

Saw a horse go down at Fairmount with heat exhaustion. Really not a pleasant sight for spectators. Kudos to Belmont for cancelling!
