The purse for the Clement Hirsch is $300,000. The purse for the Pacific Classic is $1,000,000. The payout for second place in the Pac Classic is $20,000 more than the payout for first in the Hirsch.
?????
For a horse of this calibre, who very handily thrashed everybody who showed up at the BC classic last year and has handily thrashed everybody who showed up this year, I don't understand going for the silver when the gold is right there.
Hi Kim,
They closed the SA track to training the other day....they are trying to make improvements to get through the meet that will keep the trainers from complaining about the track. That being said, I think that track may be the main reason they want to keep Zenyatta running against her own kind until the Breeder's Cup. Z's trainer know's what's best for her, he's not that fond of her running over the SA strip....he's protected her and kept her perfect this far and if he has any concerns about that track he may do as Synsonby says and pass the meet. The other concern is, of course, winning two more races and securing that bit of horse racing history. Either race Z goes in will be tough....there's that mare she ran against last time, St. Trinians who will give her a run for the money, so the streak is getting tougher to maintain and can you imagine the pressure involved in mapping this out. With her style of running she had to turn her connections prematurely gray. Taking the easy way out is the right move considering all that is at stake. On the other side of the coin, her arch rival Rachel Alexandra, is doing nothing out of the ordinary either.....she's also playing it safe running in a non-graded stake race. The way it looks to me, if these two are interested in HOY, it will be decided in the Breeder's Cup when the two of them face off for all the marbles.....not on the laurels of their individual race record as the showdown will overshadow either of their records.
