Must Read TB Books
Recommended "Must Reads" on TB racing and training/conditioning? Anyone have a TB "bible" they couldn't live without?

Hello
For anyone who might be interested, I am letting go of my thoroughbred library. I have some interesting things left (I sold quite a few things to one individual). Some of the books remaining are: Memories of Racing and Hunting (the 6th Duke of Portland), Breeding Racehorses from Cluster Mares (Dennis Craig), a signed copy of The Great Stallion Book (Richard Ulbrich), Breeding the Racehorse (Frederico Tesio), General Stud Book Volume 10 (1865), Sire Lines Updated Version (Abram S Hewitt), A History of the Thoroughbred in California (Mary Fleming), Register of Thoroughbred Stallions 1913 & 1915 (C.M. Prior), The Breed of the Racehorse (Friedrich Becker), and many others. PM me for a full list and prices.
Thanks.

Another book that might be interesting to the folks in the Northwestern part of our country is a hard bound copy of The Washington Horse (1957) containing the issues January through December of that year. Great regional historical reference.

"Professional Care of the Racehorse" is an excellent, fairly recent, guide to being a good groom, and taking care of racehorses. A lot of detailed information about how to put on a spider bandage, etc. Gotta have all this knowledge to pass a trainer's test.
"History of the Thoroughbred in America" by Robertson was a book I saw when I was about 10 years old in a B Dalton Bookstore and never forgot. It was the first thing I ever bought on EBay. A huge tome. No advice on training but you won't find a better book on TB racing.
"The Body Language of Horses" by Bonnie Ledbetter. A lot of good observations on the happy vs the unhappy horse.
"Tom Ainsle's Guide to Thoroughbred Racing" It's really a handicapping book, but a lot of good notes about what it takes for a horse to be a winner at particular conditions.
"Conditioning to Win" Equine Research It's from the '80s. They compiled research into a book.
"Training Thoroughbred Horses" Preston Burch. A widely respected book in the industry.
Happy reading! Some of these are out of print but available on EBay.

"When I am on my deathbed, I imagine I will say, 'Thank God I did that'" - Arthur Hancock, on buying back Gato del Sol from Europe after Exceller was killed in a slaughterhouse in Sweden.
