Free Horses In Ohio
Any one know who is giving away all the TB's in Ohio? I heard there was a posting on Craigslist. Owner died...family doesn't want the horses. Sugar Creek bound soon...hate it when they threaten slaughter barn.

Turns out it wasnt true, someone just started a posting and it took off with no one verifying.
I spoke with Dr Stearn's son yesterday in Ohio and this is all a malicious lie. There is not any truth to it at all.
Dr Stearns was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure about 6 months ago and at that time, they began to find homes for all the horses, knowing he would not be here much longer. They have all been placed, but it was not a hurried or concerning situation, by any means. They all went to homes that were picked by the family.
At no time, were they EVER in danger of going to a slaughter house.
Dr Stearn's son just found out yesterday about this malicious rumor and was very upset, as you can imagine, so please, do not spread any more lies.
I told him that if I saw the post anywhere that was not true, I would let everyone know the truth.

I had 3 non-horsey friends send me the info and links. SIGH, as with anything on the internet, before forwarding stuff why not take the time to confirm what you're sending out en mass?
I goggle EVERYTHING before I forward things to my friends, no matter how well intended the message.
I'm glad they're ok (gosh, I suppose I should be true to myself and google that before passing along the info!)

This was true they placed 52 horses within 3 days. Some went to rescues some went to racing homes and some went to just people getting free horses.. Unfortunately it was posted everywhere and alot of people in the racing community did not even know anything about it until it was too late. Doc stearns was a great guy and loved his horses. But none of the horses went to slaughter. Hopefully the people who got them will take good care of them.

I had heard there were over 140 horses on the farm of Dr. Stearns, it is hard to believe that 140 horse have been "placed"

I know the lady who helped to place these horses very well, and I've known her for most of my life. She's a good person, with a good heart, and a passion for horses.
I don't "know" what the truth is, but I know that as to the best of my knowledge all of the horses have found homes.
I knew Dr. Stearns as a kid, and a great horse he had once named "whistlers father" I used to clean stalls for his trainer Anthony Cuccinotta as a kid, and whistler was one of my favorite horses to walk.
The internet can definately be full of half truths, and I don't know what the whole truth is, I just know that the lady is a nice lady, and the Dr. Stearns had a lot of horses when he passed away.
