Hi All,

RHF will be offering several very healthy, well conformed, breeding mares now that are open an some after they foal in 2011.
We are happy to sell them in foal to your choice of stallion (board, stud fee, and vet expenses extra).

Some of the mares we are selling are already known to be color producers. Some are retired show mares, retired from racing, or race bred mares. 3 to 4 are sound to ride.

NUEVO, CALIFORNIA so called "BIG RACING FARM" has stuck RHF with a big lay-over bill and (7) TB's.........now until I can get rid of his 7 horses, I have to start selling mine off quickly! He owe's a big KY farm $80,000 in unpaid board, so he had them shipped to me, we had no clue, but confirmed it today!

Geez, that's awful RHF. I am surprised though, that a farm would release the horses for transport when such a large bill has not been paid. I would not think that is the norm....good luck in your sales, your horses are gorgeous.

There are times when no longer having to pay to feed them makes it worth sending them on . . . We haven't had that issue (because we don't board horses for others) but most of the farms I know who board TB mares have been crushed by the costs of horses abandoned on their premises.

And trainers at the track don't fare any better - I know of one who has had to tell owners that their horses will be turned out on grass at the farm until they catch up on their payments. I'm sure he is not alone in the problem.

Used to be that you could take a horse to auction to get paid & out from under the horse & the horse would bring money, but if you took even a decently bred broodmare to a local auction today, the only bidder would be the kill-buyer. Even assuming you live in a state or have a contract where you can legally sell the horse for non-payment, no one can afford to prep them & pay entries to take them to the good TB auctions (where they might not get a bid, anyway - that's just throwing good money after bad in the current economy). It is so counter-intuitive for people who've taken care of horses, to send them to a known bad end that you might be willing to let the owner take them, just to reduce the money you are out to your feed store & hay man.

Sorry to help hijack your thread & best of luck placing your horses - if I had an open stall & the money, I'd have already called you. But even my NEXT open stall is already taken & I'm not sure the folks who have said they will buy a couple of our mares are really buying them, smallish cash deposits, notwithstanding . . .

In the case of the KY farm, it is Very Likely that the farm folks learned that the horses' value was quite well under what the board bills were, and also below what it would cost to keep them, prep them, and send them through the auction ring. KY's new law that basically gives ownership of any horse to the boarding or care facility 45 days after the board bill was unpaid has put an END to the years of non-paying horses at farms in KY.. So the horses were moved along to make room for horses with owners who actually PAY.

It is unfortunate for RHF that they were the recipient of the deadbeat's herd.

Thank you very much.........it's been a very tangled web to say the least.
I clearly see what has happened with so many breeders and stallion owners, and the boarding farms.......well they all truely get the short end of the stick,
especially the young horses that may or may not get registered. The stud fees on two of them were $40K and the two yearlings $30K........just a mess! Out of very good studs and a top breeding fram.

You didn't hijack KB, this is truely a huge problem and it is really hurting people, relations between buyers, trainers, boarding farms..........makes me wonder, are there going to be any HONEST fricking people left in the industry? I don't know why people have to lie and ignore, and cover up what might not be going good in their favor. Instead they let the problem grow and snowball into a big mess where almost nothing can be done to fix the prob unless you have deep pockets, really a shame that humans can really be this stupid, it should never get to this point. Evryone knows when to sell if they see things are not going well for them..........plain and simple.
