Lord at War

Postby Affirmed1 » Fri Apr 08, 2011 9:59 am

One of my favorite broodmares to follow from a distance (Cuando Quiere) has four stakes horses, all of whom have Lord at War somewhere in the stallion's pedigree. Can anyone tell me what his offspring were like, and whether inbreeding to him has been tried, and what the benefits of such inbreeding to him might be? Thanks! 8)

They all have Lord At War in their pedigree because he was their sire. She matched very well with him.

Lord At War was a good versatile sire whose offspring were usually effective over 8-10 furlongs and sometimes wanted more. I wouldn't expect to see inbreeding to him as yet as he's not far enough back in equine generations yet -- maybe in another 10 years or so that will start appearing.

We may not have to wait that long. It will be interesting to see how this colt turns out. He's not a mistake in the database - he's also listed at Equineline. A chestnut, just like LAW.

Is this a reference to his inbreeding, or having Dynaformer close up?

I love Lord At War. I have a TERRIFIC older mare, who is by Lord At War. She looks a lot like her sire. She is all class, one of the best mannered broodies you could imagine. Her name is Peaceful Treaty.

I meant the inbreeding, but with Dy close up I guess they'd need two muzzles as well.

I am a big fan of LAW and his daughters. This is an interesting pedigree but I am wondering about this colt's temperment with the double Ribot and Dynaformer as noted above. He will be a good one to watch in the future. Bet he breaks him maiden at a mile or better.

Ribot's temperament was attributed to a brain tumor (they think)... that was why, they speculated, he would grab the top part of his stall and try to hang himself, to relieve some of the pressure from it. My mare is 5 x 5 to him and is the sweetest, most docile mare you could imagine.

Good to know, I had a Filiberto daughter that had a sweet disposition most of the time but her favorite thing was to walk to the barn on her back legs which at over 17 hands was pretty scary for me on the other end of the lead rope and was dominant in the paddock to the nth degree. Have one of her daughters who is the same way and always thought it might be the Ribot but I guess not. They probably just like messing with me :D

Try riding a 17+ hander with an 8"+ Florida diamondback rattler under his front hooves. It was on an AF base and the air police caught and killed her the next day. The head was 7" long.
I was riding bareback. He stood straight up on his hind legs, backed up, turned and cantered the other way.
