I think two or three years ago, somebody posted pictures of a very oddly marked polo pony from South America (Argentina or maybe Brazil). He was a part-bred TB. His white markings made him almost look like an Appaloosa. Apparently, horses marked like him occaisionally appear in this one area where this horse came from, and there didn't seem to be a genetic component so the thinking of "experts" was that this was caused by something in the environment. At least, that is what I remember about our discussion of this horse.
When I saw this mare, I thought it might be something similar -- an environmental factor. It certainly is odd. She's easily the oddest marked horse I've ever seen either in the flesh or in pictures.
