Thanks for your help?

I know someone who has a multiple graded stakes producing Danzig mare whose best foal by far physically is a Notional filly. Not the flashiest filly, but sound, correct, good mover and good mind.

Mare was a carbon copy of Danzig, so that might help in what physical is working with him.

Notional

We have a yearling colt by Notional out of a Quiet American mare. He is definitely the nicest colt that we have bred, although, we have only bred a couple of mares a year for the last 9 years. He is very well balanced, straight and has good size. Hope he can run as well as he looks.

Filly due next month

Postby FiftyYearsPlus » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:50 pm

I bred a small, but G1 placed ultra talented race mare to this horse and she has a filly due next month. I'll keep you posted as time goes on.

Kind of baffling to me that the foals sold so far have been given away. This horse has a solid pedigree and if you examine his race record in detail and watch his video's, the horse was potentially one of the best of his generation. Furthermore, I think his unsoundness was caused due to the experimentation with multiple racing surfaces when it was evident he was at his best on dirt.

Second tier unproven sires are probably the least attractive to the market right now. They will be an extremely hard sell, unless the foals are just so outrageous that people can't help look at them. Even with that, its a big gamble for anyone to buy them. Just too much proven available, or top of the class type stallions if unproven.

I can tell you that a consignor that we've used in the past was very high on Notional. Loved all of his foals and thought very highly of the stallion. She said he was producing some of the best foals she had seen.

I have a yearling colt by him. Ben Walden says he's the best yearling on his farm. Mare just dropped another one also by Notional, just as nice as the colt but just smaller. Going back to him again this year!

I've never looked at Notional but would be most interested in his bone. His sire, IN EXCESS, is a beautifully-bodied type but with the lightest bone imaginable for such a heavy upper body. No doubt that is why his progeny are almost universally lightly raced. INDIAN CHARLIE and his son, UNCLE MO, are better than IN EXCESS but not ideal by any means.

Morningside and Madelyn

Postby FiftyYearsPlus » Wed Mar 28, 2012 6:13 pm

Based on my inspection about noon today, my mare will foal her Notional filly within 48 hours.

Morningside: I'm curious to know more about the pedigree of the mother of your colt.

Madelyn: Can't wait to get your assessment and pictures of Notional.

Thank you.
