Freshman Sires

It looks like this year's crop of freshman sires is getting starred with a bang.

In the last ten days, Five Star Day has had two starters, two winners, one at Aqueduct and one at Keeneland. I was told that if you can get a season to him now, the going price is 25K, NG.

Today at Aqueduct, Broken Vow got his first winner--by 12 lengths, and over at Keeneland, El Corredor also got his first winner.

It looks like this is going to be an interesting group to watch. :)

All successful breeders breed to the freshman sires that make an instant impression.

You go with sire power that consistently produces the superior runners.
Many are called but few are chosen. These freshman sires will bear watching. Thanks for the info.
Those without sin cast the first stone.

The two starters by Five Star Day have the reinforcements of Tourbillon I look for in a pedigree. It will be interesting to see what another one of his progeny -- Minesweeper -- will do, if he starts.

Isn't it a little early to start a bandwagon? Have you heard from the farm that there are no seasons available for under 25K? After Successful Appeal's and Yes Its True's successful first year, each had a stud fee of 25k in 2005. And I am betting that Five Star Day will not have the success that either of those stallions had in 2004. Just my opinion!

I'm not trying to start a bandwagon, I'm simply repeating what I heard. Gossip, sure, but founded in fact since it came from a bloodstock agent who was trying to book a season to the horse.

I'm not making predictions about the future, I'm mentioning what the response is right now, right here, to his current success.

There's nothing wrong with offering a little speculation (whether it be pro or con). There's also nothing wrong with expressing opinions, personal theories, or passing on observations, IMHO. Isn't that the point of this forum?

I've learned so much by following up on some of these threads. So thank-you LSB, for bringing the new statistics on Five Star Day to light. I, personally, will be very interested to watch and see what happens with his crops, based on his breeding.

Since I can't resist following the new sires (even though I don't really believe in racing 2YOs this early--how that for hypocritical? :? )...

Songandaprayer had his first winner today; Stolen Prayer won a MSW at Calder by 15 lengths.
