Jockey Club Report of Mares Bred 2012

Postby fastappy » Fri Oct 19, 2012 9:50 am

The numbers of mares bred is beginning to stablizlize across the country, according to The Jockey Club. California's decline for example is a modest 1.6% decline (forty mares), so this is good news coupled with the very good sales at both the Northern California sale and Barrett's October.

Lucky Pulpit with a 114 mares bred leads the state, followed by Tribal Rule with 108 mares.

Has anyone seen Tribal Rule in person? I have watched several of his runners and am happy with what I have seen.

Hi ICouldBeU, I saw him in person about a year and half ago. I will be headed back up to Ballena Vista in the next month or so to make my stallion selection for next year. I wasn't all that impressed with him. He's not a big horse but he is pretty correct up front. He retired from a seismoid injury.

Here's a couple of pics (not the best mind you) of Tribal Rule, when he was still at River's Edge in 2008.

Yikes, like I said, it was a year and half ago. Clearly my memory serves me wrong. What's with all the negative comments from posters lately? Geeze....

I think he is typical of a lot of the Storm Cats, but more importantly he's a great fit for California. They shut his book off at about 110 mares this year and jumped him up to $6,500 for 2013. His sales yearlings average 3-4 times his stud fee, which is great for California.
