CALL TO ACTION -- please call the Attorney General of Louisiana and request a full investigation into the Ryder's Farm neglect situation where a number of horses are reportedly still at the farm, numerous horses have died, many recently removed are severely neglected, and the local authorities were aware of the problems and refused to take action. Thank you!

Thank you for the information Sylvie, and Baby r, its good to know they have some of them.

If there are more there, why did they not take them as well I wonder??

And to the poster who commented on my way of posting, look up the word: ANGER, and you will get that.

No reason for someone to be treating animals this way, no reason to keep breeding year after year after year.

Sometimes you gotta get po'd to get things done, with anything in life.

I will still proclaim that anyone on here that breeds horses year after year make me ill. Let us take care of the ones that are already here!

erhdt it might interest you to know that generally the creators of the highest number of "unwanted horses" are not TB breeders. I researched the "numbers" several years back when horse slaughter was still legal in the US and discovered that generally about 75-80% of the horses being slaughtered were, in fact, American Quarter Horses.

The American TB may soon be on the endanged list, if this table continues to develop statistically in the way it is pointing; the first number is the year and the second number is the US TB foal crop:

1990 40,333 -8.2 3,193 617 44,143 -7.5
1991 38,151 -5.4 3,025 628 41,804 -5.3
1992 35,051 -8.1 2,777 610 38,438 -8.1
1993 33,822 -3.5 2,713 605 37,140 -3.4
1994 32,118 -5.0 2,591 632 35,341 -4.8
1995 31,884 -0.7 2,446 653 34,983 -1.0
1996 32,243 1.1 2,397 726 35,366 1.1
1997 32,119 -0.4 2,284 740 35,143 -0.6
1998 32,947 2.6 2,340 734 36,021 2.5
1999 33,844 2.7 2,435 650 36,929 2.5
2000 34,728 2.6 2,465 562 37,755 2.2
2001 34,721 -0.0 2,590 590 37,901 0.4
2002 32,984 -5.0 2,468 524 35,976 -5.1
2003 33,975 3.0 2,576 515 37,066 3.0
2004 34,800 2.4 2,614 534 37,948 2.4
2005 35,046 0.7 2,788 527 38,361 1.1
2006 34,900 -0.4 2,643 556 38,099 -0.7
2007 34,341 -1.6 2,546 595 37,482 -1.6
2008 32,287 -6.0 2,381 559 35,227 -6.0
2009 29,490 -8.7 2,318 428 32,236 -8.5
2010 26,000* -11.8 2,150* 350* 28,500* -11.6
2011 23,150* -11.0 2,050* 300* 25,500* -10.5
2012 12,779* -44.8 1,900* 300* 14,979* -41.3

So while I get the point of your anger (we can disagree, still, on whether or not you have the right to be so discourteous in your posts) I believe this is not the forum for it.

Don't think for a moment that I don't know the Quarter Horse folks are just as quilty.
The point is, why breed more when there are so many already? Bottom line, simple question.

I like you alot Madelyn, you are a nice person, don't wish to argue with you.
Give Rocky a pat and a carrot for me.

In fact in part I agree with Madelyn quarter horses are overbred and this is an understatement. There is more "publicity" on thorougghbred rescues or lack of,simply because (and now please don't shoot) more TB breeders or owners or simply admirers DO rescues and CARE. That doesn't make it right to simply hide this under the carpet ...And where I disagree is exactly that YES this is the place to talk about it and may be find a solution or work on it.This is a thoroughbred discussion site (and I remember being told not to bring up the quarter horse subject even if it is still horse racing and is based on the thoroughbred and cross with it.) and the situation is a thoroughbred situation with a thoroughbred trainer, running horses as we speak, and on a thoroughbred breeding farm. So I feel vindicated and pushed to be part of the solution and not wait till "other" horse organisation push this in the open and again read and hear that"racehorses people are nasty, abuse their horses and shut their eyes to starving horses in their backyard"

Thank you so much Sylvie, I just sent my money via paypal. Took less than a minute to do so.

I beg all of you, please, to send what you can, ten, fifteen, 25, or 50 as I did, to help them. They show the photo of the scrawny horses and then a filly that is down on the ground that looks like she has an IV hooked up to her. I pray she makes it. These horses look like they can be very good looking horses once they get some food and vet care.

Please consider helping them out via paypal, its so easy.
Thank you so very much. :)

Some of the rescued horses are currently up for adoption if anyone is interested. Hopefully, they will get good homes soon.

https://www.facebook.com/LHRA1

The incoming donations are also listed on the above website.

>>>Horses in this album are available for immediate adoption. Adoption fees will be waived to approved homes. Must have an equine vet reference and be able to substantiate your ability to care for a horse in this condition. Those experienced in caring for Thoroughbreds are sought. Email admin@lahorserescue.com for adoption details.<<< (copied from site)

Donations are accepted through the Facebook page or their website.

They marked down the 2013 racing calendar to $5 + $3.95 shipping anywhere in the Continental US. It is one of their annual fundraisers and it's really nice.

Please help if you can.

note that many of these horses have not been registred and/or are not identified.

Not everyone wants a broodmare and please take a moment to think about all of the "stop the breeding" posts on this forum.

To All:

Please contact the rescue group if you're interested in helping or if you have any questions:

Louisiana Horse Rescue Association
P.O. Box 4502
Covington la 70433
Ph: 504-451-0688
Email: admin@lahorserescue.com

and

It would be a big help if you would take the time to review the previously posted list of mares and notify them if you have any useful information. It looks like they are working hard to piece everything together and I'm sure they would welcome any help they can get. Donations and otherwise.

So sad that little red colt that they were using a crane to help him stay up evenutally passed away. I pray he is in a better place now. He had an awful pretty face..

Well Sylvie, it looks like things are happenining down there. I got sick when I saw the skeleton photos but they need to show them for shock value I guess.

I really hope they have a no breed contract for every mare that goes off to a new home. They have been through enough, the poor babies.

I had a sheriff's officer call down there and he got some results and information. I won't put it on here otherwise I'll get attacked again. Sometimes those in the same type of job calling will get you some sort of answers. I surely hope it helped some. God Bless all those people that are down there helping physically, doing all the work, etc.

I so agree with bayrabicano, every little bit helps, it all adds up. Even if you can only send five dollars, just 20 people doing that is a hundred bucks and can buy some food and hay for the horses. It's nothing to be ashamed of, just know you are helping!

What on earth is a "sheriff's officer"?

Anyone who works in law enforcement and calls another agency to query about a case that their own office has absolutely no official interest in should be harshly reprimanded and probably fired. It is unprofessional and violates policy and procedure pretty spectacularly.

I have no idea if erhrdt3 actually did this, but I would really discourage anyone from trying to get their local law enforcement agency involved in an out-of-jurisdiction case.

You know. It's the same as a police deputy.

thanks bayrabicano

I come from 6 generations of police and sheriff folks. Longer than I've been alive.

This was done completely on the "side" and you know what? If it helped the horses, what is the problem?!?!

Someone just wants to be picky when we are happy that something is getting done about a terrible situation.

Let's be happy/glad/whatever that people have helped these horses, I feel terrible that some of them passed away but they were probably in pain, and they are in a better place.

If you don't like what I call them then go blow. They are officers that works for the sheriff's department.

I said that in case some wanted racehorses and /or may be some of those were well bred,I have no idea.I figure even well bred babies must be runts and have growing problems anyway from the lack of everything .
