Wondering on the take on this guy. Anyone seen him? Is he getting any mares? Anyone breed to him?

If he's not then I wonder about this BH poll that said he was, by far, a better value than Frankel?

There was never a buzz about him.
He should be gelded.

Never ran or won a dirt race why would an American breeder even consider him?

I think it will be interesting to review 4 years from now.

Not all American breeders breed for the dirt.

I've been being called by Bullet Train's connections for my Metfield mare. I would be most happy to see more comments on him too...We do not even start to mess around with ours until age 3, we let them grow up out in our pastures and be horses, build bones and strength and God willing, have not had a breakdown to date.. :roll:

And my friend, Dubli, no slight to you bud... :wink:

The problem with him, I think you will find, will be lack of races suitable for your foal. Bullet Train is bred to be a turf stayer. Those races are precious few in North America unless your horse is graded stakes level. If you breed an allowance-class horse who wants to run 12f on the lawn, your chances to win and make money are greatly reduced.

IMO this is why North Light had no business being in North America, and why Americain, good a racehorse as he was, is not a good fit for the US. It's why I think Bullet Train is a poor fit for the US racing market.

For the same price, you can go to Henny Hughes at Walmac, or Petionville in PA (who LOVES Seattle Slew! look at his SWs bred from Seattle Slew-line mares) and get a horse that is more likely to have races that fit. For a little bit more, you can get to the very, very good sire Successful Appeal.

You're welcome.

Petionville is a FANTASTIC value for a breed-to-race stallion. They run, they win, they make good money.

In Kentucky, have a look at Fort Prado. Millionaire, retired sound at 8, ran primarily on turf and all-weather which gives you options at Arlington, Turfway, and Keeneland (and possibly Woodbine). Fortunate Prospect brings in SPEED with toughness, El Prado brings in class.

El Prado sired this horse out of a General Meeting mare:

Look at the damside--General Meeting (Son of Slew) over a Lear Fan (grandson of Hail to Reason) mare. Metfield is Seattle Slew over a Hail to Reason mare.

Just as a side comment--speed does not immediately translate to fragility and stamina does not mean soundness. Red Bullet for example had the stamina to run all day, and his front legs were as crooked as a giant soft pretzel. He had a short career. Ghostzapper was brilliant in speed but really shone as a stayer, and he was very fragile. On the flip side, you have horses like Fortunate Prospect, Mr. Nightlinger, Caleb's Posse, and Jackson Bend are blazingly fast, and running hard and running sound.

Any deals available on him? I would doubt he's getting a lot of mares.

Fort Prado is now at Buck Pond in Versailles; he has new representation there that offers really good wheeler-dealer negotiating type management along with a good enough client base to give him some opportunity. He was overlooked in Illinois.
