Transport From Ky to MidAtlantic

Postby RandomThoughts » Tue May 28, 2013 10:32 pm

I need to bring a mare home from Kentucky to the MidAtlantic and would like to avoid getting held up for the cost of the transport. Can anyone recommend a local or regional carrier that does a quality job for less than $2+ a mile for a box stall?

You could try Mike Lake (859) 621-5080

I presume that you've had personal experience with the guy and I'll talk with him.
This is a big, well bred mare and I only want to deal with someone reputable.
Thanks, Madelyn

If Madelyn's transporter does not work out, you can try calling local breeding farms to see who they use. Some do their own transport, some use local haulers.

It is possible one might have a trip coming out of Kentucky to somewhere in the mid-Atlantic, with room for one more passenger.

I've used A & L transport out of PA. They are excellent. PM me for their info if you need it.

I usually use Andrew Simoff or Brookledge.

I used Brook Ledge twice, and I think my colt will be on Lorraine or however they are spelled when he travels up from FL to NJ with another horse or two from the training center. I would not want him in a box, I don't want him lying down.

Problem Solved

Thanks for your input everyone.
Finally worked a deal with two guys who work independently and together out of Fair Hill, Md. Their names are Brooke Boyer and Parkes Williams. Both are pro's and have given me quality service in the past. Both typically focus on the Mid-Atlantic area but when time permits will make a run out of the region.

FWIW, it seems the average for a stall and a half is about .73 a mile based on using two different carriers and going from Lex to Ocala and then Ocala to MP. Both are pretty heavily traveled routes.
