My thoughts on Breeders Cup Friday

I think they should get rid of the BC Marathon. It is embarrassing. I like that they tried to run a long dirt race, but let's just cut it out. This year's Marathon was ugly.

I liked how hard Bobby's Kitten tried to fight back when the Giovanni Boldini came to him. The Euros definitely run grass races a little different than here! Bobby's Kitten ran a winning race, he just couldn't contend with their style. I totally overlooked the winner.

The Dirt Mile. Yes the track is speed bias. But, my word, Goldencents ran like a maniac. He ran every step, got a little funky (possibly tired?) in the stretch. He is one tough little horse. Verrazzano, again, showed that he had to have things his way, or no way.

The Juvenile Fillies Turf. Nice win by the winner. My Conquestadory just lost 2nd. I think she ran great and I think she'll be one of the top fillies in Canada next year (if she races there).

Lastly, the Distaff. A bit disappointed with Royal Delta. Maybe it is time to retire her, maybe not.
Beholder is so very impressive. When they came around that turn and she flicked her ears a little, Stevens hadn't moved on her, it was just like "ok, how much is she going to win by?". I think she proved she is the best 3-year-old filly. Yes, Princess won all those G1s back East, and beat her by a 1/2 length in the Oaks. Who knows, maybe her campaign was tough on her? All I know is that Beholder won the big one yesterday, and did it with such ease. The first Juvenile Filly winner to win the Distaff. She has also won 4 G1s on the year. I think it will come down to the East Coast bias. I think it comes down to trainers. Mandella gave Beholder a rest in the middle of the season, and she came back sparkling. Mandella is the man.

I'd love to hear others opinions.

Hi Cree,
The Euro's were impressive. The SA speed bias was enhanced due to the heavier weight sand used in the track, which stings the horses attempting to come off the pace. Speed is king there more now then ever before.
In today's ciphering pay close attention to the Euro contingent, 3YO's against older and the best speed. I believe this track will set up some good betting opportunities. I did capitalize on it in the Distaff, as Sylmar had no shot coming off the pace (and they got what they deserved for running her after deciding to give her a rest....now they have a shell to bring back to the races)....I believed Royal Delta was over trained and she looked it (broke out on the track)...it left the lone speed Beholder trained and ridden by the best in the west...wired them with ease and the other 3YO got 2nd.
Tip of the day, handicap for speed today on the dirt and use closer's on the turf. Good luck to all. TJ

As one who often has not watched much of the previous Friday programs, I had ALL of it on yesterday. I enjoyed the fantastic shots of the track and surroundings, the Marathon, and even the reruns of the Three Chimneys ads. Turf races are generally not my bag, but they were fun, too. There were no major incidents, and no reports of protestors hassling anyone on the grounds.

I ususally go to the Breeders Cup and watching it from my living room was actually really nice. Just relaxing and easier to focus on the horses. I so enjoyed this. Beholder ran like a monster and Goldencents was a holy terror. The grass races are a kick and I like the Euros coming over to compete.

Very sad to see Centralinteligence break down but hopefully non-life threatening.

Centralinteligence didn't break down. The jockey just slowed him down and he was vanned off.

Secret Compass was the one that broke down today and sent Wise Dan's jockey to the Hosp to have his spleen removed.

Centralinteligence did break down. He is schedule to have surgery tomorrow, per Ron Ellis not life-threatening but possibly career ending.

In the running of today's Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, Centralinteligence was eased after a half-mile and he was vanned off the track. Dr. Wayne McIlwraith reported, "the problem is in the right front and radiographs show a fracture of the lateral condyle of the distal cannon bone in the fetlock joint."

Umm, you need to re watch the race. again and go to the HEadon shot at Calracing.com and watch the race. He wasn't stopped a half mile of the race he cantered out slowly... for a LONG period of time. If there was the fracture like Secret Compass he would have stopped... Like Secret Compass.

·Ron Ellis (Centralintelligence, did not finish, Dirt Mile) – Alfredo Morfin, foreman for trainer Ron Ellis, reported that Centralinteligence, who was pulled up and vanned off after the Dirt Mile Friday, would be transported from his stall Saturday to undergo surgery on his injured right foreleg.

“He’s got a cast on, but he will be OK,” said Morfin of the 5yo gelding, scheduled to be operated on Sunday by veterinarian Wayne McIlwraith at a clinic in Chino.

McIlwraith reported that Centralinteligence suffered a fracture of the lateral condylar of the distal cannon bone in the fetlock joint. He was taken up by jockey Victor Espinoza inside rivals with about 6 1/2f left in the race.

He Galloped until the far turned, was eased and cantered all the way to the wire. If it was serious I would sue the jockey.
