CHASING THE FROG: KEEPING UP WITH SLIPPERY CHEATERS

An excellent article by Natalie Voss

One of many troubling quotes: "Dermorphin isn’t just useful to trainers who have lame horses in need of some help to appear sound on race day—its ability to increase locomotor activity means it would manipulate any horse’s performance, and the right analogue would be almost impossible to detect."
"He is pure air and fire and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him; he is indeed a horse ..." Wm. Shakespeare - Henry V

Nice post and most excellent read.

Particularly insidious this drug called Dermorphin. Interesting they can synthesize and produce derivatives and how unlikely it will be discovered unless they are testing for that particular "type."

I think this article may be some sort of clue leading to the tip of the iceberg. The synthesizing and distribution of the drug screams of some sort of structure - some sort of organizational structure, some sort of organizational crime. The "Organization" hires the chemists, they understand the nature of and possess the ability to manipulate the product, with a little bit of graft and a lot of greed they get the product to the trainers and vets who inject the product into the right horse, horse wins by daylight - they're laughing all the way to the bank. They profit on the front end by selling the product to the trainers and vets and derive windfall profits on the back end with a payoff at the window. All the while knowing, the labs aren't even testing for the stuff; don't even know it exists! I can see em' now, the "Organization", gettin' together in the back room, gettin' a good hearty laugh, chomping on their Cuban cigars, sippin' on some fine Kentucky Bourbon, countin' their profits . . . I'd almost laugh at the ingeniousness of it if I didn't love the sport so much.

I'm a thinkin', this may be bigger than most of us think . . . us good guys need someone on the inside.

I've read the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act. One can actually track the progress of the bill: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/113/hr2012. Unlikely it will pass anytime soon. The "Organization" still has some time to reap their profits, but the forces against them are aligning . . . ever so slowly. On the lead, as it should be, is The Jockey Club, Phipps and Janney, and their point man is Travis T. Tygart, Chief Executive Officer, U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), he is the guy that busted Lance Armstrong. Tygard gave the Keynote Presentation, "Preserving Your Rights and the Integrity of Competition" at the 2012 Jockey Club Annual Roundtable Conference http://www.jockeyclub.com/roundtable_12.asp?section=6. He also testified before Congress on horse racing legislation. If anyone can get to em' gotta believe this is the guy. He has my full support.

Wonder if they've thought this may be bigger than they think. Would the Jockey Club and Congress act differently if they knew there may be an "Organization" involved in the doping horses?

It'll be interesting to see how this one shakes out - seems the classic battle. I will continue to watch this very closely.

Much of it has all ready been shook...it is thought to be the work of the Zeta's drug cartel in Mexico, effecting racing throughout the southwest..... here is the latest update concerning the cartels money laundering and drug smuggling. TJ
