GP Super Sunday Card

Postby TJ » Fri Feb 07, 2014 1:15 pm

Real nice card this Sunday at Gulfstream Park. The Donn Handicap was switched this season, from Saturday to Sunday to allow it to be part of the new 2014 Jockey Club Tour to be televised on FOX Sports 1 channel (FS1) from 5-6:30 PM. This will be a 10 episode event for race fans, featuring top graded stakes races from around the world. Besides the top competition in the GR I Donn, another GR I, the GP Turf Handicap is also on tap. The final stake carded this Sunday is the GR III Hurricane Bertie, featuring Groupie Doll in her final career race. Past Performances are below each race. TJ

Groupie Doll scared some of her backers today, as she seemed uninterested in running for the first 3/8ths of a mile while ten lengths behind the field. Then she turned it on like she was shot out of a cannon. Making up a ton of ground, she reached the lead at the 1/16th pole in 1:08 and change, while being ridden out the final 1/16th going the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:14.68. This was supposed to be her final career start as she is booked to Tapit this season. After this race they could have second thoughts. TJ

A nail biter at the start, she really lit up, and I think her time was .24 off the track record.
Nice to see her go out a winner.

Hi Cree,
She was rumored to be done after the BC win, that changed after she was sold. New owner, Mandy Pope decided to try her once more in the Cigar Mile before retirement. After she got beat and had so much trouble in the Cigar Mile, they decided to run her once more in this race. I'm hoping they stop telling us when she will retire. Especially when you see the GR II Inside Information Stakes going 7 furlongs on March 22nd in the book? Hey, as long as they go that far, why not win another Breeder's Cup with her, Tapit can wait :>) TJ

One of my big favorites is in the 12th today. Would love to see the race, but it doesn't look like TVG is covering Gulfstream Park today. I'll see if I get FS1.
So many pedigrees...so little time. (C)

Lea wins it, WTC 2nd, Viramundo 3rd.
He looks like he might like Gulfstream. :-) Nice win. WTC put in a good effort, but Lea is hot!

Perhaps not as good as these ones? I didn't even notice him in the race. Maybe they'll release something like he got hurt?

Hi Cree,
You're right, Revolutionary probably isn't as good as these. I thought he ran back way too soon after his big win off that long layoff. It looked like the classic bounce....made no sense to run back in 4 weeks after they gave him all that time off. Lea ran huge, broke the track record and received a 114 beyer. Will Take Charge was just as impressive considering it was his first start in over 2 months. Should be a nice race when Mucho Macho Man meets up with them. TJ
